At this point i'm glad I bought applecare.
I have a nearly-loaded 15" 2.16MBP (wk 14) that i've had since beginning of April, and love it to death. Sadly, it has suffered from whine and excessive heat- under load even with fans running full blast it will often struggle to clear the high 80s. Its gotten as high as 91-93C and survived, and according to temperature monitor they cutoff at 100C.
The only 'basic' option on my comp is the 100GB/5400 HD. Everything else is maxed out. It was back from when 2.16 was a BTO.
Then a few weeks ago it developed another problem involving the fan, in my case on the left side. Similar to this person here.
It goes on for hours, even days at a time then will occasionally disappear but it usually comes back. If its going when the computer is at full load its a horrendous sound.
the thread referenced above gave me the idea to run a hardware test, and I did, but since the fan wasn't making noise now it apparently didn't register.
But something else did: error code 4SNS/1/40000000:'TC0P'
Couldn't find anything identical here, but I did at the apple support forums. Sadly (or maybe not so sadly?) the thread mentioning that error code with many members reporting in that they had that problem had most people saying their MBP was replaced pretty quickly.
So once I wake up tomorrow, its time to call AppleCare. Wish me luck in getting this sorted out.
