I use a MVNO in the USA which has zero service outside the country. For my first week in Asia, I iMessage and FaceTime worked flawlessly on WiFi which is everywhere. Suddenly, after a week without changing any settings, both stopped working. When I clicked on my number in both FaceTime and iMessage settings it just gets stuck at waiting. My current cellular status is No Service

How do I fix this? Or is this the default behavior I have to accept going forward?

Thanks

Have you restarted the phone?

Are you sure you have a working wifi connection when trying to use them? Maybe do a wifi speed test to verify that it is robust enough speed for FaceTime?

Have you turned OFF your cellular to "force" it to use only wifi? Maybe it is confused into trying to use cellular even with "no service" showing. Turn off cellular and it HAS to use wifi.

Both apps should work perfectly fine over wifi. Good wifi should let them connect as you wish.

If it’s become unregistered, you’re SOL until you get back into service as far as using your phone number for either. But you should be able to iMessage or FaceTime using your Apple Account email.

This happens to me often. What I do use my iCloud email to send and receive via iMessage and unfortunately those who text me on my number won’t receive a response. I haven’t figured out a fix for this. It’s happened for years now.

Unless your phone number is connected to cellular service provider (i.e., roaming - on), it will not be possible to receive iMessage or use FaceTime on that number.

You could use iCloud account for iMessage or FaceTime, but you have to let the other party know to send iMessage or call on FaceTime using your iCloud account.

Alternative it to use other Apps, like Telegram, Signal, WhatsApp, etc.
