So I lost my iPhone recently... well more like had it stolen, but its ok (karma). I qualify for an upgrade but I don't know whether to get a 3Gs now, or wait until the Summer and hold out for the rumored 5MP camera and LED flash.

Can anyone provide any feedback regarding those rumors? I want to hold out, especially if the rumors end up being true... but don't know if i have the willpower :p

I would say you can count on a new iPhone in the June/July period. Now what features it will have is up in the air.

At the very least, wait until Wednesday. Apple will be releasing some info on a new product of theirs. They may also announce some info about the iPhone, so at least wait until then to make any decisions.

If I were you...I would wait for the next gen iPhone to come out. I know it's hard to go without an iPhone for a long period of time. Trust me I know. I sold my 3g last year a few days before the 3gs was announced. I was extremely disappointed when I found out that they weren't gonna release it for another month or so. So I was stuck using my old Samsung Blackjack. But as long as you have a half way decent back up phone to last you until the new iPhone. Do yourself a favor and wait. I'm sure the new iPhone will out do a lot of expectations. The 3gs wasn't a big up grade from the 3g so expect apple to try and raise the bar on iPhone imitators.

Like others have said, I would wait at least until the 27th. If nothing is announced then, I would buy a cheap phone off of ebay to use and wait for the summer.

In your shoes, I would also wait for next week's announcement at the very least, and definitely try to wait for the summer to see what the new iPhone will be like.

If you really need an iPhone, perhaps buy a beaten-up used one for as cheap as you can find one to tide you over?

Thanks for the feedback. I almost got the 3Gs last night, but decided to sleep on it. So glad I did. I think i'll wait till the summer, and in the meantime find an old phone to use.

I'd go for the 3GS. The biggest improvements will come from iPhone OS 4.0 anyway, which the 3GS surely will get. The 3GS is top notch hardware wise, except for the low resolution screen, although it's also an advantage because it makes the browsing experience super smooth. I couldn't live 6 months without my iPhone.

If your current iPhone is working fine - then I'd wait. I still have my 2G around. Still as good as new after 2 years.

u have 30 days to give the phone back, buy the 3gs in black 16gb, 30 days later, return it and get the white 3gs 16gb, 30 days later, return it and get the white 3gs 32gb, 30 days later, return it, and get the black 3gs 32gb, then if the iphone 4g hasnt been launched by then return the black 32gb 3gs and get a blackberry or something, keep doing this until the iphone comes out. =)

I think you seem to forget that if he/she were to do this. They won't be able to get a new 4G iPhone because he/she would have already signed a new contract. Thus locking them into a new 2 year contract. Then how will he/she get the new 4G iPhone at a subsidized price? Answer...they won't!

not true...when i was on verizon i signed up for another 2 year contract with a phone, and i decided before the 30 days was up that i didnt like it, so i sent it back and wasnt locked in. if i had kept it i wouldnt have the iphone right now. i moved back to my other phone then moved to the iphone.

they probably have some secret limit they didnt tell u about when it comes to exchanging phones so often lol.

Either way, i dont see processing speed getting a huge boost from the 3gs since they just did the upgrade and the 3gs isnt having any slow down issues. More like some hardware addons and a bit of a design change.

But with iPhone OS 4 coming out this summer you don't know if the 3GS will be having slowdowns or not. Don't forget that the Nexus One that was just released by Google (which is probably the most prominent competition to date) is sporting a 1 GHz processor. I'm hoping Apple are able to match or beat that even though I'll be keeping my 3GS.

yes a 1ghz processor and still cant scroll though webpages as smooth as the 3gs and its 640 mhz processor lol. Also it still has to have the 3g run this os and its already sluggish with 3.0 so i cant see them making it much more bulky and cpu/ram intensive or the 3g wont even run it.

at some point they have to rule the old phones outdated and stop worrying about them in software updates... just like operating systems

Not saying ur wrong but if they are including the 3g in this next update then they can't make it too bulky or it won't run on the 3g lol

they will probably have a dumbed down version of OS 4.0 for the 3G.
almost like what the 2G has now, well - that's what i think will end up happening.

I agree with this. I think it's safe to say there will be a new phone June/July, but that's about it.
