k I just updated my 2g iphone to 3.0 and once again lost ALL my contacts.....htis happens everytime i update......for next time, is there a way to backup my phone numbers before I update??

Best bet is to synchronize your contact with another program, such as Outlook.

Or, if you really want to be sure, write down everything manually. Old fashioned, and a pain, but definitely effective. Unless if you lose whatever you wrote it down on...

so..since theyre gone...is there any way i can get them back? like a restore..?

hmm ya i only have a mac so I need something for a mac....I was hoping maybe there was a file on the phone that stores the contact info that I could just copy to my computer incase I lost it..

Are you using a Mac?

If so, in address book you can make "smart" groups and then in iTunes on the phone you can choose to only sync a particular group (however, It can't be a smart group).

So what you want to do is...
Create a smart group that is all contacts who have a phone number.
Then create a normal group and drag all the contacts in the smart group into the new normal group.
In iTunes you should be able to choose to only sync that particular group and there is also a checkbox to "add all new contacts to this group" on the iPhone.

You could what AiralynRose does above, perhaps?

I guess i'll use Address Book .......anyone know how to import the numbers off my iphone? I did a restore and got them back to my phone =)

hey guys,
i have an iphone 2g, firmware 1.0 =/
i'm planning on upgrading it to latest firmware.
if i sync the phone to outlook/address book.

and then i restore it, upgrade it to the latest firmware 2.1.0? and when i sync it back with outlook/address book, will all my contacts sync back into it?

even though i was on firmware 1.0 and now i have the new 2.1.0 firmware?
'thanks.

I started using Funambol to sync contacts. Its a free app and works like a champ.
