Lost AppleCare paper; Am I screwed?

Long story short: I was going to wait until 11 months (or when I sell my iPhone) to sell my iPhone to activate the AppleCare, so I placed it in a desk for later. However said desk was replaced by my parents. They recovered the box but did not realize the paper was there. Now I have only the box and the receipt for the purchase (which included my iPhone). The box has numbers like serial # on it. Is there anything I can do with these two piece of documentation? Oh and I am absolutely sure this AppleCare is not registered to another device.
 
If you bought Apple Care with the iPhone it was activated at the same time. Otherwise, simply call AppleCare and they can recover the sale from their systems.

Did you register it with your serial number? If you did, Apple will just look up your serial number to see if you have Apple Care.
 
Have you actually checked online to see if the applecare has already been activated or not ? )ie just entering the iphone S/N ?
 
Surely there is no point waiting to activate AppleCare?? All it does is extend the original warranty so whether you activate it on Day 1 or 1 day before the year warranty expires, the new AppleCare warranty will still finish at the same time. Otherwise, everyone would just buy applecare right before their original warranty expires.
 
yeah dude im pretty sure u have to activate it within a few months, so even if u did find the papers, you wouldnt be able to use it.

You can always activate applecare till the end of original warranty of whatever it applies to. ( or a short while beforehand to give enough time for activation anyway )

you can activate it anytime before the original one year apple care ends.

the length however does not change. it does not add three years from when you activate but it extends the entire warranty to three years from the original purchase date of the product.
 
I think you may be. I know AT&T sells Applecare without registering it to the customer/device. The registration has to be done by the customer when he/she gets home.

AT&T may be able to check their system for the sale and if they find it you may be able to call Applecare and work something out that way. If not there's really no way to retrieve the code and you're simply out of luck.

While I was at the Genius Bar their were several people who had tripped water sensors and did not know when their iPhone had touched water. I did not want to be one of those people and be out $69. Also I only bought AppleCare because AT&T gave me lots of free stuff. I always sell my iPhone to get the new one and did not know if I would get more $ for the iPhone plus 1 year of warrantee or the iPhone+selling AppleCare.
 
I'm pretty sure that you can cancel your AppleCare contract anytime before it is actually scheduled to kick in (after your original 1-year warranty) and get a full refund back, so no, there really is no point to waiting to activate it. Not to mention that if it is active, even during your first year there are perks you get from it showing as active on your phone's serial # (such as free cross-ship by-mail warranty exchanges, where they give you the replacement phone FIRST, and which they normally charge you $30 per-incident for the privilege of doing).

And, yeah...to the OP: you need that paper, otherwise I'm afraid you're probably SOL. :(

Ouch....Applecare is simply a warranty extension. It is not insurance against water damage. Water damage will void your warrany and your Applecare!! :eek:

So the moral of this story is...if you inflict water damage on your phone, and it is still within the original year's warranty, call up Apple and cancel the extended AppleCare & collect your refund. If you don't ever end up using it, my understanding is that they will let you "return" it, so to speak.

Did you not just prove my point? I did not want to be out $69 and not have any warrantee. I did not know that you could cancel it at any time as the above poster noted.
