OK, I have a bit of an emergency here. I'm no stranger to iPhone hacks, I jailbroke my iPhone several months ago and have done updates with PwnageTool, redsn0w, etc. I read up on the 3.1.2 update using the new PwnageTool (3.1.4) and it seemed safe enough so I went ahead and did it... unfortunately, I apparently made a serious mistake.

I follwed the instructions... downloaded the official iPhone 3.1.2 firmware, pointed PwnageTool to it, built the custom firmware, and flashed it. One option I didn't notice was the checkbox for "Activate my phone". It was checked by default, but my phone was already activated.

The update worked, so my phone is now jailbroken with the 3.1.2 firmware, but now I have no cell phone service! My SIM PIN is blank, my number is not listed, and Network is shown as "not available."

I made a terrible mistake... And I knew going in that this was always a possibility when messing with hacked firmware. But is there a way to fix this, or am I SOL?

Make a correct IPSW and use iTunes to install it

just uncheck activate and make another custom firmware. Then shift-restore with that, and all will be well.
(same thing happened to me last week!)

I tried rebuilding with PwnageTool unchecking the activate box and flashing it but still could not use my phone. Did some further reading of forums, and installed ultrasn0w. That worked, I now have cell service. Thanks for the help, all.

Had you mentioned you were trying to use an unofficial sim, we could have helped you more.

Glad you got it done.

I am having the same issue, but I am using the original AT&T sim that came when I purchased the phone. I was previously JB at 3.0, and stayed there until now, when PT said that I wouldn't have to enter DFU and would just need the Pwned .ipsw. I am still at the 04.26.08 baseband.

Got PT 3.1.4, got the 3.1.2 .ipsw from Apple, ran PT, clicked that I didn't need to activate the phone after the JB, and clicked that I had already Pwned the phone since it was already jailbroken.

The .ipsw was produced and the update seemed to go smoothly, but now I have no cell service at all. I am no pro at this, did I choose an incorrect option in PTs 'Simple' mode?

Any help would be appreciated.
