Lost Contacts on my computer should I still update?

Recently I got a virus on my computer and had to reformat. I lost all my contacts from outlook! But they are still on my phone. Luckily my music was on another hard drive.
What should I do? If I sync it with itunes will it delete my contacts or update my outlook?

My understanding is that it's a two-way update. I've gotten alerts that changes I've made to my iPhone will result in a change of 5% or more of the respective data on my laptop, and do I want to continue?

yah i've gotten that also, just scared to lose all my numbers, emails and pictures that i have set
