Lost Cydia After Update to 3.1

Hi,

I have a 2G iPhone which was JB by redsn0w. Just now I update to 3.1 by clicking the update button in iTune but Cyida is gone and those cracked apps do not work anymore.

How can I get Cydia back? I don't want to loose my SMS history, Music Library etc.

Unfortunately you are going to have to wait until the Dev Team have come up with a way to re-jailbreak those phones that people updated to 3.1 via the itunes update button.

Not sure how long it will be before this fix is done but it maybe a while. There are posts all over the internet from people in a similar situation to yourself.

enjoy your vanilla phone because there's no app to get cydia back.

I will try to be nice about this. You post how you lost your cracked apps and you need to rejailbreak. If you can figure out how to get cracked apps you should be able to visit those same sites to recover your jalbreak.

Yes, it's a 2G iPhone. You can downgrade until your heart's content.

Cydia will be back but go buy your other apps.

How about just getting Cydia back? I actually only have 2 to 3 cracked apps and I don't use them very often, because there are actually many many free apps.

You have a 2G iPhone, you can downgrade. After you downgrade (restore to 3.0.1 for example), you can jailbreak it with redsn0w 0.8 and load a previous backup.

I doubt the op would be capable of performing the downgrade given the fact that he was green enough to update a JB phone from Itunes...

Assisting users with cracked apps is against the terms of service of Mac Rumors. Naturally, people aren't going to like it if you ask for help with cracked apps.

Thanks. I need a bit more time to digest you advice. But as a 1st thought I think doing so will earse my SMS history? For the Music Library, I would be fine because I purchaed Senuti, which is a wonderful app.

Or, is there any good SMS backup and restore applications? I serached the web and I found many application can backup SMS, but seems they are not capable of restoring to iPhone.

I always confuse the terms "jailbreak vs unlock". My iPhone is not a "licensed phone" because at the time I bought it, there was no "licensed operator" in my country. I guess redsn0w both JB (i.e. installs Cydia so as to allow apps other than Apps Store?) and unlock (i.e. allow me using un-licensed operators) but after updateing to 3.1, only the unlock remains intact.
