Okay, so i officially am PISSED with Apple. And this comes from someone who owns 4 macs, an iPhone, 2 iPods and an AppleTV and has converted nearly everyone in his entourage to mac.
So I typically use Microsoft Entourage for my calendar, and have it sync automatically back and forth with iCal. Only problem I have had with this is that it lumps all of my categories from Entourage into one category when it goes into iCal. I HATE this, but I don't think it's Apple's fault, so we'll leave that for another forum.
Well, I finally got my .mac account "upgraded" to MobileMe, which I was really excited about because I THOUGHT everything would be PUSHED back and forth instantly between computers; hence, no data mixups or errors.
WRONG. First issue I encountered was that instead of things instantly propagating/updating, I get a bunch of damn warning windows that pop up asking me which versions of iCal updates or contacts I want to keep, despite the fact that they are all identical. For example, it will show a version from my MobileMe calendar and iCal and ask me to click which one I want to keep. They're the same! So when I think things are syncing properly, I come back to my computer and everything is stuck waiting for me to click a dozen buttons. Not to mention, when I make a change to one calendar, rarely does it even move over to MobileMe and actually make it to another calendar. So I end up having to update on each respective computer separately. C'mon!
Then, I experienced the BIG MISTAKE as I like to call it. I am not sure exactly what happened, but I assume it went something like this. I had my Entourage calendar set up to go back and forth with iCal and had about 4 years worth of events saved up. Somehow upon syncing, MobileMe only kept events created in iCal (which was VERY few), then updated my Entourage calendar accordingly, wiping everything clean! No way to retrieve any of my lost info!
I thought this PUSH thing would resolve such issues and simply cut out this SYNC bullcrap that requires fine-tooth combing to make sure you don't lose something when trying to correctly update contacts and calendars. Which reminds me, I also lost my contacts which of course so beautifully PUSHED its way to my iPhone.
