no, you need the passcode if you are using a different computer than the one you set it up with to even restore it
Not if you put it into DFU mode! But then again all of the data will be erased.

Yep, i'm currently in a shock & bad mood because of my lost iphone
There goes my paycheck for new iphone...
i report it as stolen to at&t today and the service has been suspended.
So lets say the guy takes my lost phone to apple store,
are there any chance would apple store know that it's stolen
and contact me?

BUT, if you use a program to remove passcode non-destructivly, you can get ALL the data off it (but it removes all saved passwords)
is that even possible for "iphone 3gs"?
i thought 3gs can't be jaiilbroken YET
Update:Just got off phone with att rep,and he told me whoever took my phone, the phone's serial# has been reported as stolen so that the guy can not activate it. But still, that guy can restore it using DFU mode and use it as ipod. Poor me.
Oh besides, I'm eligible for early upgrade, so i need to pay $399. So there goes my paycheck for the week
Only using DFU mode can they use your iPhone. That of coarse will erase all data on the iPhone. Otherwise, iTunes doesn't play nice with an iPhone that is passcode locked until you enter the passcode.

As long as the guy who took my phone can't use it as a phone since the serial# has been reported, i guess i'll be satisfied with that.
I called Apple with my serial number whenever my iPhone was stolen so they'd know its a stolen unit, the phone representative said it was registered as stolen, but if it was bullcrap or not I don't know. I guess yeah, because they don't give a rat's ass really. It's not their problem.
