I live in South Korea teaching English. I'm from Canada, and brought my iPhone 3G here hoping that I would be able to use it here. That was about a year and a half ago.
The other night, I left my iPhone in a cab. I thought I'd never see it again, and figured I'd get an iPod touch to hold me over until I returned to Canada. Life goes on.
I got a call from my friend today. She said she was in Seoul and had something to tell me, and she wanted to see me in person. I have the hots for her really bad, so of course I was exactly where she wanted me to be, when she wanted me to be.
We sat down for some coffee, and I asked her what it was she had to tell me. I always get nervous when I hear that. She told me it wasn't something she had to tell me, but something she had to give me.
Now, she lives about 5 hours away by bus. I figured she had a present or something for me. I never once thought she had my iPhone.
She pulls it out of her purse. I have never had my jaw drop like that before. It was like I was in a dream. It's the first time I really questioned whether or not something was happening.
The cab driver found my iPhone, went through my contacts, and called my Korean friends. Luckily I stored their names in there in 한국어. She came by bus, for 5 hours to Seoul last night, stayed with a school friend, arranged to meet with the cab driver this morning, called me to meet up, and gave me the phone.
I was beside myself. I almost cried. I had started to pawn off my stuff to buy the iPod touch (which is about $100 more expensive here than in Canada).
I have renewed faith in humanity. I can't think of anyone else who would do something so thoughtful for me. She spent 2 days of her time to get my phone back to me. The world isn't such a bad place after all.
