Friend of mine forgot her MacBook Pro M1 in the Shepherds Bush Library in London, UK. Find My shows the MBP still on the library but she went back to the library and spent an hour searching for it without luck. Unfortunately MacBookPros don't have precision finding like AirTags do. Which is something I could never understand why Apple has not added precision finding to iPhones, iPads and Macs!!!

The Find My location updates very quickly when my friend is in the library whereas when she goes home it only updates every 30 minutes or so. So clearly the laptop must be within Bluetooth range when she is in the store. She tried to play a sound but it doesn't seem to be playing. I played on mine and it's not the most strongest sound out there, why can Apple not play a hard rock song?!

Any suggestions?

I have to wonder if someone at the store has it and doesn't want you to know, but also doesn't want to remove it from the area because they know you're tracking it.

Can you get the authorities involved? That's an expensive piece of gear to just go missing in a library. I would be raging.

Of course, she went to the library and the manager helped to search. But it's a huge place with two floors so if someone hid the laptop somewhere it's going to be very hard to find it with so many places it can be. The police here won't help you for a lost item and even if it was stolen they might not get involved as they "too busy solving other crimes". But even if they could get involved what could they do?

Laptop has been found by the cleaners. Thank you for those who posted helpful things and specially to those who posted obvious things, couldn't have made it without you! ;)
Details please :)

How did it there? Did somebody stash it to pick up later? etc
