Lost my 3G internet after jailbreaking my 3GS

So I finally got around to jailbreaking my iPhone 3GS last night. Everything was working great and I had a bunch of mods going on. I downloaded Boss Pref and SBPref and a bunch of themes. When I got home from work, I noticed that I was unable to connect to the internet via the ATT network but I could via WIFI. Then as I was digging around in some settings, I noticed that I had the internet tethering option available to me. AND it worked! Even though I could not browse on the phone itself, I was able to use the 3G connection and browse on my laptop. Well, I tried turning airplane mode on and off, toggle 3G on and off, removed the sim card, etc and nothing worked. So I restored the phone twice without getting my internet back. Interestingly, the tether option remained after both restores and only went away sometime after the second restore. But I still dont have ATT 3G access on the phone. Trying to browse on Edge (with 3G off) doesnt work either. I used Blackra1n to jailbreak. Any tips?

Sounds like you messed something up trying to get tethering to work.
See if you can install the latest carrier update thru iTunes. I believe it's AT&T 5.6 ipcc

The data connection was already gone before I noticed the tethering option. And the only thing I did when I noticed the tethering option was to turn it on and it worked perfectly. I am running 5.6 on the carrier settings.

Suggestion is not to mess with what you cannot figure out.

Go to settings, general, network , cellular data network and make sure everything is configures correctly. See if u can download and reinstall the carrier file also to see if it fixes it.

Wow, thanks for the awesome help guys! I hope I will be that helpful when I get to the 60,000 post club.

Just to be clear, I have owned every iPhone and this certainly wasnt my first jailbreak or unlock. I just ran into something a little weird here and thought there might be something unusual I wasnt thinking of. Turns out there is.

I continued to do some searching and found that a lot of people are having trouble after jailbreaking with Blackra1n and then installing SBSettings. Internet not working, App store disappearing, Wifi not working, etc. So incase anyone else runs into this same problem, I will go ahead and post the solution that I found.
Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings.

Sorry Applejuiced, I guess I wasnt really referring to you. I was just a little peeved after the other comment. Thanks for trying to help.
