My wife has a 3GS she just uses for basic phone/web functionality She has never synced or backed up, but she has little on the phone she cares about losing.

Today, our 11 year old was playing with it, and managed to put a password on it. Of course, he doesn't remember even doing it.

Here's the issue. It is a week 45 3GS (I just checked the SIM Tray Serial Number). My wife will be going to China in about a month, so I was planning to JB/Unlock it for her later this month.

I KNOW I can do a DFU restore to get past the password issue since she doesn't care about losing anything. BUT, will I be able to restore it to 3.1.2 (I assume that is what was on it since it is a week 45)?

I don't want to go to 3.1.3 because of the obvious JB/Unlock issues

Advice?

Your pretty much f-ed:)
you won't be able to jailbreak it since iTunes won't let you restore it to 3.1.2 cause you don't have your shsh files saved. You said it wasn't jb before right?
So no jb and no unlock obviously for the moment.

YIKES! Unless I decide to "beat it out of him" :p , I suppose I COULD sit down with a case of beer, and try all 10,000 combination's!
