lost photos

Help!! I uploaded some photos onto my Mac but did not save them into iphoto and now they are gone. Is there any way I can find them? Someone mentioned locating them in Temporary files?

Have you used Spotlight (CMD+SPACE) yet to search for them?
And now for some more questions:
