Had ios5 since first day offered with no issues. Then I wake up yesterday and all my photos on phone taken since August (about 150) are Simply GONE. No I was not using photostream (rather poorly designed that bit of nonsense).

Anyone else heard of this?

sorry to hear that. I have not seen or heard this yet. Did you have them downloaded to a computer? I assume there is no chance you accidently clicked "delete photos" after you imported them to iphoto or something since you say it happened when you woke up. Scary.

I was in process of transferring them to Picasa but of course had not gotten to the ones lost. %#

You lost them from your phone? If so I would try three things:

1. Take another photo and see if they appear
2. Plug your phone into a PC and it will map as a drive and you can copy the pictures from it (assuming they are there)
2. Get a program like iExplore (no JB required) and see if you can find them from the iPhone file system if 1 and 2 don't work.

If you can't tell :D I'm exploring the possibility they are there and not displayed in the photo app. I hope you get them back. I've copied my photos out via #2 above for years.

I had this happen to me. upgraded an iphone 3gs and it said 0 photos...but the background was a picture. They eventually turned up after a couple of resets and restarting the computer and stuff.

Thanks for the ideas. Nothing more shows up when I open it via desktop connection but it still shows the disc space taken and in settings shows the 268 photos vs the 193 I can find and 100 videos vs the 50 or so I can find... ??!!

Sorry, I may have not been clear. When you browse the phone with Windows Explorer there are IIRC at least three folders to drill down through. Only at the last level (in iOS5) are there multiple folders and each one contains some of the photos/videos. In iOS 4 for me they were all in one folder.

Yup no worries I'm no techie but knew that much. There were 3 folders and none of them contained my missing pics but as I say the totals on the phone in settings/about show the total as if the pics are there, same as consumed disc space.. The plot thickens.

Ok this isn't a fluke. Again, had 160 photos one minute. Next minute left with 25. Settings still shows 260 photos on phone (with corresponding hard drive space consumed) but they're all gone in 'photos' and even hooking it up to desktop the photos are nowhere to be seen. Anyone??!!!
