Hi,

Got an offer for a 1.8Ghz G5 20" iMac for £199. However it has no restore disks (Panther) if I bought a copy of Tiger would I be able to restore using that?

Isn't £200 insanely cheap for a working 20" iMac G5? Is there something horribly wrong with it? If not, I'd get it. Absolutely. You can always find system install discs on eBay or something like that.... or, erm... just get a copy from someone else who owns the same machine, since you have a license for those discs, and they're not good for anything else (so either the originals are lost in space, or they are with another iMac G5 owner who also already had a license for them...). Either way, it seems to me that if you were to "get" a copy of the same restore discs that came with your iMac, you wouldn't truly be violating copyright, since it's a zero sum. But Mods, feel free to delete if necessary. ;)

oh is iLife not included on the OS X install disk? I always assumed it was as the restore disk for my G5 puts it straight on  To be honest it's not a machine I need, it's just something Iw as pondering for uni next year, to be honest I really want a cheap mini instead, I just saw this while perusing another store's stock file at work.

Restore disks include iLife, but retail copies of OSX are just that: OSX with no other software.

Weird I thought I replied to this.

This changes my plans somewhat but I'm looking for a Mac (G3/G4 iMac, or a low end mini) for sub £200. At the minutet his machine'd be looking at least £300.

Basically I need something dirt cheap, running OS X for my university time next year, as I fully expect the machine to get damaged (student digs) I don't want to spend much, but need a desktop - basically it'll only be for iPhoto and Office so nothing massive needed.
