For some reason, I had a folder that read "Sent (MobileMe)" that contained emails from before 11 November. All sent emails after that was in the Sent folder located under Mailboxes.

I'm not sure what happened. I have a lot of sent emails (550+), and like an absolute idiot I tried manually moving the emails to the regular Sent folder, then deleted the Sent (MobileMe) folder. Of course as luck would have it, this caused me to lose all my sent emails.

Did anyone else have this problem? I also noticed a "Drafts (MobileMe)" folder under MobileMe. (These are listed with the folders that I created for various things -- Business, Finance, Miscellaneous, Receipts, Travel, etc.).

Finally figured it out... I'm posting this not only as an end to my frantic pursuit of a solution, but also in case someone else has a similar problem:

- Highlight the folder [i.e., Sent Messages (MobileMe)]
- Select the Mailbox menu and then "Use This Mailbox For"
- Select Sent, Drafts, Inbox, whatever

That allows you to reassociate the mailbox with the smartbox in the upper left corner.

email wipeout

I was lending my other MacBook to a friend, so I de-registered it from my network (or so I thought) and deleted all the emails that were in the .mac account files for personal privacy reasons. Next time I access my primary Macbook all those files were also deleted on it. Just a warning to be sure how you deregister shared machines.
