Lost use of photoshop with update. Bummed.

Hello. If there is a better place to post, please let me know. id really like to get some help with this.

So, i had to update my OS X in order to update my iTunes for my 6s. I went from snow leopard to Mountain Lion. With the update i lost the use of an old version of photoshop i had on my mid 2010 Mac Mini. When i tried to open PS it would say "PowerPC is no longer supported". I was told that the version of PS i had wouldn't work any longer. I used photoshop a lot, but for only one reason, to stitch pictures together, side by side. Thats all i used it for.

Can anyone tell me if there is a lite version of photoshop with the ability to stitch photos, that will work with Mountain lion? I can't pay $1000 for PS when all i used it for was one thing. If there is no hope for me putting PS on here, is there another program i could use that has the ability to stitch photos together? GIMP was suggested, but that doesnt have the ability to stitch and reviews say its hard to use. Does apple have a basic program that has the ability to stitch anywhere from 2-8 pictures together? I really need this for my hobby and after having PS for the last 4 years, its tough not having it. Thanks, O

I am sorry you are running into this frustration. I don't know for sure but you might want to check with Pixelmator and also Adobe Photo(shop) Elements. Both are vastly cheaper than Photoshop.

Thanks, yeah its a bummer. Ill look into the Pixelmator you mentioned. I looked at Adobe elements, but it requires OSX 10.9 and Mountain Lion is 10.8. Seems like there must be something from Photoshop for an older OS x.

You may want to check out this app, Panorama Stitcher. Pretty cheaper at $14.99 and will do what you need. Just a suggestion. Otherwise I would look at Pixelmator as already suggested.

Second this suggestion, way cheaper than any of the other options and if all you want is that function it should suit.

Thanks, I'll look into that panorama stitcher again. I think I looked at that and it looked like you had to place all sorts of pictures all over the place, but I'll look again.

As far as pixelator, it requires 10.9 and I have 10.8 OS X. Unless I misread the site, thanks for the help.

Why not look on Amazon and see if anyone has previous , but unused , copies of PS Elements ? IIRC Elements 12 will work on 10.8

Ah... sorry... I was using it for a while on 10.6, I'm on CS5 apps now.

I'd prob go for Pixelmator.

I would have never even thought of that. So just search "photoshop elements IIRC elements 12" on Amazon? Thanks for the thought.

Thanks I'll try the Amazon search thought and then I may have to update to Mavericks and get pixelator. Thanks.

So I checked Amazon and it I'm seening a few different things. Will they all work on Mac? I'd hate to bite on one and not have the right thing. The ones I checked didn't seem to say for Mac or Windows etc.

Lightroom 6 or Lightroom CC does panos and HDRs without the need for forwarding the files to Photoshop. and of course PS is not a cataloging software that make libraries.

Move to Adobe Photography Plan which is a subscription based service that includes both Lightroom and Photoshop. The only serious alternative that does both library management and editing is Capture 1 Pro.

As far as I know , Elements comes on a disk that's dual platform , i.e. Windows and Mac . Either look in the Amazon ad page for PSE to see if that particular offering will work on a Mac or redefine your search for Adobe Photoshop Elements 12 for Mac and see what pops up .

Pixelmator is great but it does not have an auto-stitcher function like found in Photoshop.
As suggest earlier in the thread, I recommend Panorama Stitcher for a simple photo-stitching application.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm starting to get overwhelmed lol. Is panorama stitcher something I find in the App Store on Mac? Do you know if you can crop once you stitch pictures together, in that program? I guess I should really try and go for the easier fix and as much as I loved the Photoshop I had, I only used it for stitching photos together, so why should I go for a big program like that if I only use one thing in it. Right?

Hmm, seems like it may work, but I'm wonder if I can adjust the pics myself once they are in the program? It says they stitch automatically and I like to adjust the pictures to be level to each other and have a certain amount of space between them, before I commit to the photo. Do you have any more experience with it? Hmmm. Tough call.

It creates a panorama from multiple photos by combining photos that partly overlaps.
I don't think you can manually adjust how they stitch or have a certain amount of space between them.

If you just want to rearrange multiple photos and create one photo of them, Pixelmator will do that for you.
