I WAS considering getting one of the new MacBook pros, but I am confused about the whole graphics card issue.
1. Does this situation as described mean that the performance with the new machines will not be adequate to play LOTRO?
2. Is the situation better or worse with Bootcamp vs Visionware/Parallel?

I am typing this on a Dell XPS1730 which is relatively top of the line but I'd like to have a Mac!

If the above are not impediments, any thoughts about 17" vs 15" for gaming use?

Thanks in advance (and sorry for graphics ignorance<grin>)

Barry

1. I'm not sure exactly how it compares to what you have, but the new MBPs will run LOTRO very well.

2. I believe that LOTRO is only available on Windows. Bootcamp will allow you to run the game much better than either VMware or Parallels. Don't forget that you need a full copy of Windows to use any of these three solutions.

I'm very happy with my MBP (2 years old, see my signature) for Windows gaming. I assume it and newer would handle LOTRO without any issues. I've not looked to see what new MBPs come with, but I'd recommend 256MB VRAM or better, actually the more the better for higher resolution gaming.

MY early 2009 2.9ghz c2d MBP with 512mb 9600 played LOTRO at 1650 res, all setting full ~40fps. I turned it down in raids, but you will have no problems.

Thanks all. My concern was the lack of auto graphics card switching in the higher end (and i am not clear what that means) causing decreased quality, but apparently with newer cards, I'll be ok.
