Anybody else amped up for this...
I know there are plenty of WOW players here and I know there is no mac version releasing initially, but it looks like I will use bootcamp for something besides school related crap.

Meh.
I was in the beta group for LOTRO back in Nov-Dec '06. It was a cool game, but I ultimately didn't get into it like I thought I would.
Hopefully it's a lot better now (it had some pretty raunchy bugs back in Dec.), and hopefully you'll really enjoy it. :)
Perhaps I'll give it another go after it's been released for a couple months.

After reading the wiki on this it seems that some points are just so comical taht the game appears to be just another rip at trying to kill WoW (I don't even play WoW).

Firstly theres no magic abilities :( Secondly there is a class called burglars.

And then just about the bits of information I saw that state that you get to see the fellowship moving along on their journey. This would be alright for a single player game but surely watching the fellowship leave the shire (or wherever) every second week loses it's effect eventually, it just seems taht messed up time issues like that would not fare well.

Just my opinion of course!

As the first, and only MMO I've actually played for more than a couple hours, and plan to purchase, it's not bad at all. And yes there are magic abilities. It's actually quite fun. Got in with the Fileplanet beta, and decided to give the full game a go.

That's correct. But there are magic-like abilities. There are very few wizards in Lord of the Rings and hence you are not able to play one in game. The Lore-Master is the closest thing to a mage but he is more "in tune with nature" than anything. Instead of casting a fireball he throws burning embers at the enemy. It's the same thing but a different tone. This makes your character normal and not a "super hero".

Secondly there is a class called burglars.

So? That's what they are. They aren't assassins, they aren't rogues really... they are normal folk who are adept at being sneaky. The emphasis of the game in my opinion is that you're a normal guy who will eventually find their destiny; hence starting out as a nobody instead of throwing you into the final battle at the beginning. I'm rather content delivering pies to people as my character is currently doing because that's all he knows.

That's very wrong. There is no replay of the storyline (unless you specifically ask for it). Everything that happens story wise happens in instances you go to once. The instances are not like WoW instances for these things. There are specific quests that take you to places you've already been but in an instance fashion. So I might have a plot line quest that takes me to an instance of the shire where events unfold. Once the even is done I'm taken out of the instance and put back into the shire. Since I've done the quest I'll never see that part again. I can redo it if I like by going to a special location but that is purely for your own enjoyment. You will not see events happen over and over again unless you want to.

------------

Overall I really like the game. I think they did an excellent job. It's unfortunate there isn't a Mac version but it's worth rebooting into XP for for me.

I tried this game and though I am a huge LOTR fan I just couldn't get into it. A game I would suggest you all to keep your eyes on is Warhammer Online Age of Reckoning (http://www.warhammeronline.com/english/home/index.php)

Just a quick statement Warhammer the table top game was out and fairly successful long before blizzard. Here is a quick screen...

I've been following LOTRO since 2004 when it was MEO (Middle Earth Online) and trust me when I say that it has come a looooong way since those days! It looks terrific, but I can't afford it at the moment, what with saving up for a MB and the next gen iPod...

In the event that anybody does try to play it, their account administration web pages are not compatible with Safari. I tried for several days off and on to update my registration information and input my game key and it wouldn't work. It didn't give me an error at all. Finally I thought, "Why not try IE?" Worked the first time.

Actually, Burglars are VERY similar to WoW's Rogues. In fact, Champions are Fury Warriors, Guardians are Protection Warriors, Captains are Paladins, Hunters are self-explanatory (they didn't even try for that one), Lore-masters are Mages mixed with Warlocks, Runekeeper is Mage meets Restoration Druid, Minstrel is the musical Priest, and Warden is the one legitimately original class(pretty fun too, I like their Gambit system); just to name a few analogies. My impression of LOTRO is WoW with a LOTR feel to it, with a little bit of extra flavor (i.e interactive and instanced storylines, interactions with heroes from the LOTR book, Radiance and Dread, etc). However I do have a few disagreements with LOTRO: 1) Where's the Mac version? We're 10% of the gaming community, that means something! 2) Lack of true pvp (monster player is fun for a bit, but I'd like more of a true world pvp feel)
3) Where do I see fervour as a Champion?
So not a lot to hate about the game, but reason 1 is going to be why Blizzard continues to top the MMO charts, despite the baby-crying you may see (it's mostly from trolls anyway, so it's not even legit most of the time).
I understand this is a mouthful, but I had to get it off my chest, and I can't post on LOTRO's forums.
