Lot's of Conflicting Information on Unlocks

Hi all,

Okay, I have tried to do as much research as possible into the issue of unlocking the 3G iphone. Mine has been jailbroken using the pwnage tool on Mac. I am on 2.2 firmware but the baseband firmware is 02.11.07. I have a custom logo on boot up (my company logo) and all of my settings set.

I have seen instructions for yellowsn0w that say you can install it and have it work on that firmware. I have seen other instructions that say you need 02.28.00 and it will only work with that firmware.

1. Which one is accurate?

2. If I have to upgrade, is there a way to upgrade just the firmware without having to re pwnage? I saw a link that describes this but the download seems disabled. 3. If not, is there a way to re-jailbreak without using quickpwn so that I can put my custom boot logo back on there, and still have the upgraded baseband firmware?

4. Is there a way to back up all my installed apps (non-app store) without have to re-install each one individually?

I have done searches for this information but that is how I have come up with the conflicting information, hence my creation of this thread.

Thank you for any and all clarification on this conflicting information and the appropriate methodologies.

If you use apt backup, make sure you unhide any hidden apps that you may have, because this causes glitches (apps don't appear anymore. At least thats what happened to me)

just an update...
the link to the method of updating the firmware WITHOUT having to reset the phone - it worked perfectly!

So, if you have the iphone 2.2 firmware with the 02.11.07 baseband firmware and do NOT want to have to restore and re-jailbreak through the whole process, just download the file on the linked page, follow the instructions and you can enable yellowsn0w.

I have to admit, I'm curious who found that out and what their connections are...

Very interesting if nothing else.

Sorry to jack the thread but i also have a question.


With quickpwn in the sticky it says

"iPhone 3G Modem IS UPDATED. If you want to unlock it DO NOT update it or you may make it not possible in the future."


Is it okay to update it or not if i want to use yellowsnow?
