Loud Fan - Help Quickly Please!

I just turned on my iMac today and it is making a loud noise. I have now realised it is the fan which is going at about 3600 rpm (CPU Fan).
Do I need to return my iMac - or is there an easy way to fix it?

Hi there, Applecare had me do this the other day. Their instructions were:

do a restart from the apple menu
when the computer reboots hold down these four keys simultaneously: alt, command, p, r
..........hold down until the start chime sound rings three times, then let go. Hope that helps.
