i went into the apple store in northridge a few weeks back it was the last day within my return policy, my ipad was purchased under my girls name and shipped to my adress even though my name was on the shipping recipt so basically i wanted to exchange wifi and wait for 3g. the manager said no and would not work with me, luckily a week later i called customer care wanting to pay resctocking fee plus upgrade fee to 3g and luckily they worked with me and now my 64GB 3g will be arriving tomorrow

i already ordered a skin it customer wrap and have the apple book case
a clear plastic shell off ebay (awesome case) and the speck candyshell which speck gave me 25% off for being an at&t employee . so im new here and just sharing my story bored at work

Cool story, but........why do you also have a girls name? :p

And all of this could have been avoided if you kept the WiFi only and bought a second iPad with 3G or didn't buy the WiFi only and waited for the release of the 3G instead.

I phone ordered a 32g 3G at apple and the agent was totally clueless. didn't know there is a restocking fee, told me the wrong delivery times, said if I returned it in 14 days, even used, there was no fee, and finally, he set up my order wrong, and ordered a Wifi-only instead.

I thought, no big deal, he'll just redo it, but he put me on hold, seemed like 5 min, and came back and said some more clueless things, and that he could not cancel the order. He agreed it was his fault, that I had said 3g. But now I would have to be transferred to another dept to cancel the order. by now I was mad since I was spending a lot of money, and this guy seemed to know nothing and now I had to talk to someone else just to fix his mistake. It made no sense. more hold time.

The next guy kept thinking I had just changed my mind, and he took awhile to get that the agent had screwed up the order. It was frustrating. I had ordered a case too.
He finally, hopefully, cancelled out the first order and I had to give the cc info and everything all over again. and so I asked for the case free for the trouble, and he agreed.
Wasn't what I was expecting from apple. the first guy was apparently brand new and wasn't trained at all. he should have been able to just redo it, but I had to order, cancel order, and reorder thru 2 people.. ugh.

Congrats. You've succeeded at contributing absolutely nothing to this thread.

To the OP--Welcome. Most of us understand how refreshing it is to have exceptions made. Glad it worked out for you.

I got the wifi model on Apr 3rd from the online store. Took it to a retail store with no receipt on May 13th and left with a 3G model.

Restock fee of about $70
No iPad downtime
Well outside 14 day policy

I'm happy.

I try to be nice on this forum and on any other forum, treat others as I want to be treated. I try to help when I can, learn something when I can, and realize that not every post is a "stop the presses" everybody needs to know this post but just one where someone needs someone else to talk/share with.

At the end of the day, there may be plenty of times when respect wasn't given to me but what matters is that I presented myself in a respectful way. I am responsible for my actions and when someone shows me who they are....I believe them.

You just defined the behavior of an adult, which makes things pleasant around here. Unfortunately, not everyone knows how to act in the same manner.

To all those who were more than happy to pay the restock fee in order to upgrade to the 3G version, why not just sell it? you could probably have gotten more than what you paid for it, even if just to cover sales tax and a few bucks to buy an accessory?
