That old wet popping noise is offensive... especially when the volume is too high and you're turning it down, having it loudly squelch in your ears over and over again... yuck. I turned it off but my partner keeps it on her MB :(

The new DP5 understated wood-block sound is a much welcome improvement.

Simple, subtle, and most importantly, if your volume is accidentally really high, it doesn't burst your ear drums as you turn it down, instead it just gives them a gentle, volume-corresponding wooden tap.

I wonder if any more of the old sound effects are due for an upgrade or the chop?

There is no volume change sound for me, even with that checkbox checked (I toggled it several times)....

FYI, if you don't want to toggle the setting in Sound System Preferences, you can also hold shift whilst changing the volume. It will behave oppositely from however it is set.

For example if you have feedback enabled and you press F12 to increase the volume and get the sound, you can press shift-F12 and it will increase the volume without the feedback sound.

Or if you have feedback disabled for personal reasons (I do) you can hold shift while adjusting volume to hear it for that adjustment "session".

Thanks, that works... even though I have it turned on in Sound SysPrefs...

Must be a glitch in the prefs file or something...

Over the years, I've noticed that sometimes when the checkboxes don't behave as shown, I just toggle them off/on then back. This happens to me even in release versions, like 10.9.4

I've tried that a few times - not making a difference...

What you did is not cool, when talking about a new feature you should post the image or in this case the sound

That's great, thanks!
