LOVE my iPad but ...

I've been pleasantly surprised working on the iPad, 3 weeks as of now. The productivity (for work) is about 100% better and easier than I expected.

Now, I can't get over that Flash issue (50% of my favorite sites). Something will have to give. I do not believe that, in the short term, that many web sites are going to be switching from Flash to html5 or whatever.

Is this only a battle of egos here? Would the iPad be so bad, performance-wise, if it could run Flash vids?

Other people frustrated, or more patient, or simply would accept anything Apple does?

Again, 90% of the iPad, I love. But that 10% seems so damn ridiculous. Where else can't you have Flash videos?

Flash is for interactivity and vector graphics. It was only used for video as a band aid. There is no reason to use Flash for video. Tell your favorite sites to get with the program and move to HTML5.

can't say i have any issues without flash. i rarely ever visited sites that use it in any event so i suppose i'm not missing much.

No, it's not just a battle of Ego.

The biggest technical reason is probably Reason #4, the battery life. Flash absolutely kills iPad/Pod/Phone battery life and Apple doesn't want a reputation of short battery life on its mobile devices.

Where else can't you have Flash videos?
Mobile Phones generally don't support it.

Yes, it will take a very long time for Flash to die out.
Unless Adobe gets a version out that plays nice on phones, pad and pods it is likely to die out eventually as more and more people use phone-like devices.

Many major websites have already (or are in the process off) making unique, HTML5-rich pages in Safari, not to mention apps that utilize this as well.

Sure, it's frustrating to not have Flash on every website. But within the next few years, I believe we'll be seeing a massive shift to HTML5.

Personally I've found the absence of Flash to be a very minor issue. On the sites that I visit Flash seems to be only used for videos and most of the time the video is either already hosted on YouTube or someone has posted the video on YouTube.

It's interesting that people can have such different experiences of the Internet; ranging from very little use of Flash to 50% of visited sites.

Most mobil sites don't have flash. You can download widows 97, but it will probabily ruin your iPad.

I haven't missed flash at all. I couldn't care less if it disappeared tomorrow.

Wow very interesting and varied comments. It shows that some people do not required Flash at all, others will wait and see, and some believe that new technologies will come to the forefront and dislodge Flash.

But gosh, nobody seems to have experienced frustrations? Simple things like watching vids of local/national news broadcasts. The killer was the World Cup games/highlights.

So we'll be patient ... and frustrated.

Perosnally, I never use the iPad for watching those things (actually, don't watch them on computer either, come to think of it), and I'm guessing other people who aren't frustrated don't watch those vids either. But I do think that most of those news sites would eventually move to HTML5 or come out with apps -- have you checked any of the news apps? Many of them have videos. And there are also quite a number of World Cup apps. Haven't checked them out myself but there could be some that lets you see video highlights.
