Love My iPad Thoughts...

I purchased my 32 gig WiFi only iPad on a Sunday. It took me two days to finally open it because I was still going back and forth in my head trying to justify the purchase. I always get the new "thing", netbooks, slingboxes...etc.

So, I couldn't stand it any longer and opened it. It's been 1 week and I absolutely love this thing.

I had been watching Netflix in bed with a Wii console, but I hated the quality of the picture. I started buying tv shows and movies on my iPhone. Can you say expensive! So, that was the beginning thought behind my purchase of the iPad.

Well, it's been a dream come true. I love the larger real estate of the screen for watching Netflix and videos I have on my account. But the real surprise is the fact it's become my total entertainment system. I surf, check email, watch movies, do some light work, research stuff all from this little iPad. I only open my laptop to rip more movies and sync now. I don't care if the TV is on now or not.

Two days after having mine open, I took my significant other and got him a 16 gig 3G version for himself. He loves playing games and doing puzzles online. Some nights I couldn't see him from across the room because of the laptop screen! No more.

If you are debating, and you can afford to try it, I would encourage you to do so. It is more than a larger iPod Touch. It's a whole new experience that should be tried, at home, not tethered to a display table to see what it can really do for your enjoyment.

LOL...My other was watching me from the other side of the room. I guess he thought it was another one of those things. I had just gotten a netbook, so I was on thin ice anyway. Believe me, it was hard looking at it with that sticker on it from Best Buy saying there was a 15% restocking fee if returned, opened! YIKES.

I almost lost it when I got mine. It said "please connect to iTunes" throughout the rest of the 1 hour I spend with my parents in the shopping mall. When I got back to the place I was staying at for vacation my parents had taken the laptop out for the night....took 2 hours to install iTunes on my aunts 8 year old computer just to get my iPad activated. I was freaking out the whole time.

I have a MBA and an iMac desktop and thought an Ipad would be redundant. Was I ever wrong. I have not used my MBA on trips since it was used only for e-mail, banking info and the net. I do all that plus read books, the news etc. I watch lectures from Oxford U on Physics from iTunes U and this whole experience has been far more than I could have imagined. The apps alone, are worth having this device. An App called, Starwalk, permits me to walk out at night, look up into the sky, lift up my iPad and it shows the names of everything I see and shows the constellations as well! This is truly magical and that term fits this device beautifully. Apple has created something that is a farout, incredible device!

3+ months for me and the iPad has become something I use constantly. It hasn't replaced my desktop/laptop (MBP with ACD), but it's a crucial adjunct and is a joy to work with outside the house.

+1 Cant replace mbp but 'crucial' - its soo good.... id say its reduced my mbp usage by an average of 50-75% depending upon demands of the day

It reduced my MBP usage as well, though I do look forward to iPad 2 and the extra RAM it will have. The browsing should be more fun that way.

I love mine... what I love even more is the awesome battery life. I wake up and check FlipBoard to catch up on all my news. After eating breakfast, I usually browse MR or other sites while in the Pot. During shower I listen to music like pandora and what not (about 40 mins). Once done with lunch i'm on it for my TV shows as cable tv just sucks now in general and is a waste of money. In the evening I'm back on it for more browsing and relaxing and podcasting and blah blah. Finally once in bed I talk on skype for about 3-4 hours with my wife who is travelling abroad right now. All put together, I end the day/night with about 30% battery left. For the weekday sched it's the same however instead of wasting my day in reading news and what not, I take many meeting notes, study for exams, and take notes for school and of course talk on skype as usual.

I still like mine, but it needs multi tasking to be more useful. I hate having to open and close one application at a time.

I got my iPad the day before launch (UK) and I'm still finding things it can do that I didn't know it could do. I'm a stickler for detail but I didn't even notice the undo/redo keys on the number pad/symbol pad until someone pointed it out to me in the forums yesterday.

Top device! Couldn't go back to not having an iPad now.

Months later its incredible. What a travel computer for books, simple games, audio books and movies. Paired with Evernote and OmniFocus its become my major productivity tool in meetings, taking notes which sync across multiple devices etc.

Is there any doubt why millions of these things are being sold?

Hell yeah. I've been using my iPad for about 5 weeks now and I can honestly say it's the best piece of technology I've ever bought. Nowadays I use my MacBook Pro only for work and the iPad for play. I am actually able to measure the increase in productivity the iPad has brought.

When at my MacBook Pro I work and nothing else. The iPad is for surfing, RSS (Reeder rocks) and reading. It's easy to measure how productive my day has been by asking myself how much time I've spent in my sofa with the iPad.

I've been working from home for the past six years and I never knew I needed the iPad to make my life oh so much more structured work wise. It may sound stupid, but this is my iPad story nonetheless

Totally agree with saunterer. I moved my RSS reading to Reeder recently and forced myself to not visit Google Reader while at work and it's made me much more productive. By saving my "entertainment" all for iPad-only, I get my work done and then go take a break and have playtime on the iPad later. (Except for MR forums... still here way too much in between code compiles)

I didn't think the iPad was all that intriguing when I got one (from work) to borrow for the first few weeks. Figured I'd have to share w/the other engineers so I didn't do much with it. My other 2 engineer co-workers had no interest in the iPad so by default I ended up taking it home every night and on weekends.

Once I figured it was "mine" to use for awhile, I started customizing the heck out of it, and that's when I got hooked. I'm completely paperless now, and more productive than ever. Taking notes in meetings with Mental Note and Evernote is great, and being able to write on comps/screenshots of a project to provide feedback is priceless.

The iPad doesn't get out of my sight anymore, and I'm close to getting my own 3G version instead of this wifi one. It houses all of my tech/code books, all of my balloon pilot FAA documents, video podcasts, netflix, ABC Player, novels, everything. It's my all-in-one media center now.

The only time I use my MBP these days is for iMovie or writing Objective-C for iOS development.
