I have an iPhone 7 Plus .. why am I thinking that the XR screen res won't be as good as what I've got? 401 PPI vs 326 PPI. Think it'll be a noticeable difference? Am I missing something in all the “most advanced LCD” marketing spin?

I'm skeptical as to what percentage people could tell the difference in resolution if they didn't know which was which. There are other aspects to a display beyond just resolution.

Same problem here. But no other option better than xr.

I tend to trust Apple will have the most advance LCD rather than only look at the spec. In terms of color accuracy and also 120hz touch response. As an Apple user I think I will not look at spec only, I am also looking for both hardware and software in one package.

Xs and max are just too pricy in my opinion.

I can live with 326 Ppi and some extra cash in my pocket. Also saving up for the iPad Pro 2018.

I also don't understand how nobody seems to have noticed that the bezel is MUCH larger on the XR than the X/XS/XS Max. Between the lower resolution, the unsightly bezels, lack of telephoto lens, and the missing 3D Touch, I'd have a very hard time recommending the XR to anyone.

People don't care because it's not a big deal.

The iPhone X had the smallest display on the market for a premium phone in 2017. But people bought it because it had an Apple logo and Face ID.

The XR has an Apple logo and Face ID for $749.

None of the iPhone X owners I know bought the device because it had FaceID and an Apple logo. They bought it for the display, cameras, and speed. At least the XR has the latter; the back camera and the screen are significant downgrades from the X. The larger bezels sort of jump out at you, which makes it odd that no 'reviews' seem to have mentioned it. Anyway, the downgrades make it hard to recommend the XR over the XS, XS Max, or even the X (IMO).

Go to a store and compare your phone to an iPhone 8. If you can tell yours is noticeably sharper then you’ll probably be able to tell with the XR too as it shares sharpness levels with the 8.

The XR has a significantly upgraded wide angle lens over the X actually. The XR shares the larger sensor with 1.4 um pixels with the XS and Max. The X has a smaller sensor with smaller 1.22 um pixels. What this means is that all three 2018 models including the XR should have significantly better low light performance than the X. The downgrade that happened with the XR is that it loses the telephoto lens. Apple did add Portrait Mode to the XR though.

Does the camera specs, larger sensor, "this and that" really matter if you're going to view photos on a subpar 800p screen anyway? Do yourself a favor a get an iPhone X. $899 at the Apple, or $800 new on Swappa.

My gf has a iPhone 7 Plus and compared to my 7 the screen quality jump is really noticeable. It’s way way nicer than my 7. Clearer and more fluid/faster.

I’m scratching my head a little at the XR.

Given its size it’s obviously aimed at plus owners. However many are going to notice a significant drop in screen quality.

Plain 4.7 screen size users will get a great deal (especially those with a 6 or 6s) but will end up with a phone closer in size to the plus...

Presumably if many wanted a plus size phone, they’d already have one.

I guess Apple is betting that there are many iPhone owners who just want the excuse to get something new and those who want to wave about the ‘new’ cool iPhone, but couldn’t afford/justify $999+.

In a case, the XR isn’t going to look much different to the X/XS except to those who really do know the difference (not most people).

"The operating system itself isn't even the biggest consideration for the survey-takers. When asked to pick one main criterion for going with a particular smartphone, only 19 percent said it was because of the OS. The higher criteria: the price, at 33 percent, and the brand, at 26 percent. (In Apple's world, of course, the brand and the OS are pretty much synonymous.)"

The iPhone X pulled the brand lever to the extreme. It was a $999 statement of the Apple brand. Face ID added to that brand proposition being an Apple-only technology.

With the iPhone XR, people get brand + Face ID all for $749.

There's a reason why most analysts predict 50% of Apple's shipments will be the XR.

I think the XR looks really nice. I look at it as a whole. It has all the guts of the XS.

Can you live with the 70 something PPI less? I think so for 500.00 less.

If the XR had dual cameras, I might have went that route instead XS Max. I wanted 6.5 and I want Dual Cameras.

I wish, wish they added colors for the Max!

People do care, but they’re priced out of the X line. Apple got lazy on the XR, period. Why should they make a great phone when they will sell millions of them even with this shoddy screen?

Lazy? You really think the average consumer is going to care about 720 P resolution? Most consumers have no idea what OLED is for that matter. What the consumer will see is exactly what Apple wants them to, which is Face ID, new form factor, six new colors, etc. The only see what Apple markets, they don’t go into all the specific details the consumer likely doesn’t care about or has knowledge of.

The average consumer just wants the cheapest monthly price for a new phone. I still think it’s cheap on their part. Maybe I’m in the minority.

Just a reminder that for $10 less than the base model you can get a Galaxy S9 with one of the BEST OLEDs and 256GB(!) of storage. XR is so overpriced it's not funny.
And here I am laughing at the price of Samsung and Microsoft products, which claim to be premium. Do those idiots truly believe they can charge as much as Apple for their rubbish, only because they upped some specs? Hilarious! Next they will take a Toyota rename it Luxus and sell it $10K less than a BMW.
