Loving my $800 MacBook Air 11 Ultimate!

Got it off of Craigslist because it was too good of a deal to pass up! Very noticeable difference in weight compared to my MacBook Pro 13 but no real noticeable difference in performance at all. Having done any real encoding yet but I'm not going to use it for that purpose.

Higher resolution screen is great and I have no difficulty reading and writing with the smaller screen. Wish the battery life lasts as long as the MacBook Pro but this would definitely be a much better traveling companion especially when flying.

Now I have to justify having the MacBook Pro 13, MacBook Air 11, and and iPad 2... I might have to sell off one of them if I can't but I might use the Pro as at home and in the office because it does a great job encoding videos and it's not that hard to set it up as a server. Also, reselling the Air for a higher price than what I got it for would be easy too... Decisions! Decisions!

congrats! i just got one a few weeks ago and love it.

I was very worried about the 11" screen, but it's suprisingly usable for the office apps I frequent. I am using it as my daily machine and work heavily in email, ppt, xls, doc, etc...

The only thing I've had trouble with so far is reviewig architectural diagrams in PPT. Those are a bit small even in full screen, but for traveling this thing is going to be awesome so I can deal with that. At the office I use a 24" 1080p monitor and it works fine. I notice a bit of visual lag sometimes when switching spaces which I assume is the video card pushing it's limits, but it's definitly not noticable and I'm all about performance...(quad sandybridge and fancy video cards, etc.. on my desktop).

it's the aspect ratio of the 11 inch that gets to me. I'm sure i could get used to it, but i like 16X10 better than 16X9

$929 with 4 GB RAM,64 SSD, upgrade to any size OWC SSD that suits your needs, I just bought 3 more today, to upgrade to 480 GB for friends, all of whom have seen our3 minimights with 360 GB SSSD's, they just are spell bound. These may be Apples best kept secret

I got the MBA 11 with 1.6 processor, 4 GB Ram, 128 SSD off Amazon for 900. The thing is in great condition, and I love it. Did I get a good buy here? (9 weeks old)

I thought the 11.6 inch screen would be to small, but it is great, and compliments my 13 inch MBP wonderfully.

After buying the MBP with 256 SSD, I cant go back to SATA HD, I love the speed of the SSD. I know the SSD last year for the MBP was a Toshiba drive, anyone know what the SSD for the 11 inch model is?

Two 128GB SSDs are used in the 11", Toshiba and Samsung. In System Profiler->Serial-ATA, TS=Toshiba, SM=Samsung.

Yea I went with this instead of the ipad, as I really need a keyboard given I write a lot. Im glad I went with it. With an iphone, I just cant see me using the ipad more than the MBA. My mom is deciding between an ipad or a MBA. If you are going to browse I suppose the ipad is great for this. Carrying an extra keyboard for the ipad seems to defeat the purpose of portability doesnt it?

I sold all my pc's now and went straight to Mac. Only prob I have had is that I gotta sell my dell printer, it will only work in parallels mode-kinda a pain.

If I were you I would sell Ipad. The MBA ha more functionality in the end with a real and complete OS.

I have never heard Apple use the word "ultimate". It's a way to quickly describe the highest specs possible for the device in question, within the constraints set by the BTO options.

Apple never used the ultimate tag in any market. It's just easier to say '11" ultimate' over '11" 1.6GHz processor and 4GB ram and 128GB SSD'

That intel graphic isn't too much of downgrade. I mean I was too against it, but nVidia 320m isn't all that great graphic chip and Intel chip is just slightly slower (yet faster than GF 310m). For me personally, it's better to get 3x faster procesor and 10% slower GPU than 1.1x faster gpu and 300% slower processor...

Of course new iCore processors with nVidia GPU would be the best, but this isn't an option...
