Are you wanting to switch mobile phone device, are you talking tablets (referring to the surface) or change from using Mac computer hardware ?
Likewise explain your definition of why you are trapped in the Apple Eco System because this 'definition' has just become a quick throw away phrase these days and it's meaning/definition very much fluid ...
Many of us here are using Android mobile devices with our Mac computer hardware without any issues. Syncing to iTunes with iSyncr. File transfer via Android File Transfer or Photos app for photos from the android device after selecting PTP option on the android phone.
At the end of the day if you are referring to iMessage and Continuum and syncing of stock apps like reminders & notes / then if you don't want to use alternatives - just stick with the iPhone.
There is nothing wrong with the iPhone either.
Just because the grass may look greener, doesn't mean it is. If what you have is working for you, why do you feel better the need to change it,
If you just want to try something else, then you will have to simply accept that it's a different device and it won't work exactly like an iPhone does with Mac OS. If it doing so is important to you, then it's the wrong device for you.
Switching to Windows won't change any of that, but merely add more layers of obsufication as to why your devices are not the working together like the ones you currently have.
