Has anyone else experience significant less battery life after 3.0 update? even worse with the push system on

a bit

a bit on my iphone 3g. do you mean the original edge iphone or 2nd generation/iphone 3g? 2g is always confusing to me.

yeah the battery life on my 2G iPhone has been horrible after the upgrade..
I've turned Push Notifications off and have noticed a slight improvement but it still sucks :(

You just upgraded the software of your phone that can in no way kill your battery. If your are still doubtful then take it to the nearest Apple store for service.

My battery life has been bad since the 3.0 GM upgrade as well... It can barely go two days without charging. Before I'd go 1d10h standby + 5h usage. Now it won't go that far.

It's a software thing. I wonder what they did between the betas and the final release...

However: iPhone 3G and 3GS users have been experiencing bad battery life as well... So I guess it's a 3.0 Rev1 thing :p

I meant the first gen edge phone :p sorry for the confusion

Thanks to everyone for the answers, good to know its not only me. Hopefully apple will do something about it :)

I'm having (at least I think I am) a battery issue on my iphone 3GS.

I'm coming from already owning the iphone 3G, and I can report better battery life on the 3G.

Right now my brightness is set to 20%.
Push off.
Fetch off.
Bluetooth off.
Wifi off.
Location services off.
Notifications off.

I had a full charge this morning when I took it off the dock for work.

Usage: 1 hour 18 minutes
Standby: 9 hours 46 minutes
Battery: 74%

The usage was 30 minutes web-browsing, very light texting, and mainly using TweetDeck or Twittelator Pro for the other 30 minutes.

On my old 3G I used to do the same activities and I'd be around 85% or more right now. I haven't changed anything from what I used to, my lunch break didn't get longer, lol. I'm using it just the same.

Just so we can get some more stats, I'll chip in what I come up with. I'm about to hit up some iHop as my iPhone just finished charging 100%:
2G Jailbroken & Unlocked (AT&T)
Wifi: OFF
EDGE: OFF
Email PUSH: OFF
Notifications: OFF
Location Services: OFF
Brightness: 100% + Auto (I've used this all the time and usually still get 2.5-3 days with a charge)
Possible background processes: Winterboard
Possible daily usage: Music, Calls, Text

I will refrain from Apps, Games, and Videos and see how long I can get through. I made a thread about a similar problems, but after checking my Mial settings (for the first time), PUSH was on, fetching 15 minutes, so I thought maybe that was the problem. But now its off (and I never got any push notifications either so I didn't know).

this is ridiculous, it doesnt even last a day anymore. I charged it fully this morning and unplugged it at around 11am right now I was gonna text my friend and I realised its dead, poof no battery. btw my stats are
2G Jailbroken & Unlocked (AT&T)
Wifi: ON
EDGE: ON
Email PUSH: ON
Notifications: OFF
Location Services: OFF
Brightness: Auto
Possible daily usage: Music, Calls, Text, browsing the web and email

My battery was doing great until I launched Beejive, all the sudden I heard the noise when you receive email, but push wasnt on. I checked processes and noticed mail was running (WTH?). So I quit it, and rebooted. Charging via laptop was hot at first, but after reboot cooled down a bit. Charged it via wall overnight and it was fine this morning, will try again without launching Beejive this time..

so yesterday by this time my phone was dead. tonight I have 87% battery. All I did was kill the push system, and its running back as normal. maybe this will help until apple releases an update ;)

Indeed

My battery life sucks as of late, especially the first few days after 3.0.

I usually wake up at 6 to watch the Today Show, and leave my phone plugged in most of the morning, so it makes no difference to me in the long run...

However, I used to be able to go 2 and sometimes 3 days without a necessary charge. I'm lucky if I make it 2 whole days now. :(

Hope this can be remedied.

I'm seeing this too. I use my 3G for work, so it's used a bit more heavily. I used to easily get through 1 day on 1 charge. Now, by the time I get home from work I have low battery. If I don't plug it in as soon as I get home, the battery dies.

I'm surprised that such few people are reporting this reduction in battery life??

I purchased my 1st gen in July 2007. After almost two years the battery was beginning to fade. Nothing bad but I would certainly be close to needing a recharge at the end of the day instead of no problem when it was new. When I went to 3.0 I really didn't notice any change. Min you, it was only a week or so later my new GS arrived. But my point is after two years a number of wear and tear issues were creeping up on my phone, including battery.

Same Problem

I cant seem to keep my iphone 1st generation Battery charged. Normal use is just killing it. I called apple and the guy said that no one had called in about the problem, that it was probably just my battery. He also said though, that the iphone 3.0 SW was designed for the iphone 3gs, and is more taxing on the processor.

Usage: 2:22
Battery Life: 57%
Edge - Off
Wifi - On
Phone - On
Push - Off
Fetch - Off
Use - 4 txts, music, twitter once.
Backlight - 40% auto

I had the same problem on my 2g iPhone. Also 3.0 probably wasn't made for 3gs only since they are experiencing the exact same issue.

Here's the fix:

1. Go into settings and under reset select erase all settings and data. This will take an hour.

2. You'll probably now have the apple logo with the spinning wheel under it. Put the phone into restore mode.

3. Restore firmware and when iTunes asks to use previous iPhone backup select create new phone. Push must be kept off and set email to check manually for updates.

The battery issue for standby will be gone. For maximum battery use put the phone in airplane mode when just listening to music. Also wifi takes up less battery life than edge so try to always use wifi for web surfing.

Someone want to confirm the above?

After the 3.0 upgrade on my 2G, and getting that MMS hack, I've notice that my battery dies in about 4 days on 100% STANDBYE. Nothing on, not even a sim card plugged in.

I had a similar problem after updating my girlfriend's 1st gen phone. I reinstalled the firmware a couple of times; this did not help.

Turned out the culprit was an email account that utilized push. I deleted the account, and set it up again. The battery life went from about 2hrs after a full charge to better than it was before the update.

If you're having this problem, check your email accounts that may use push; this may be the cause.
