Hey guys,

Just got my 27" stock imac from an online retailer today. 3.06Ghz c2d etc. and absolutely love it except one thing. The HD seems to be much louder than my 24" imac that was basically inaudible. This HD on the 27" is a Seagate ST31000528ASQ 1TB, that seems to have an almost constant low buzzy, vibration-like sound that you can hear on the top right in the back when I don't have music playing? Anyone else experience this? Is this normal and is there any way to make it quieter? Thanks in advance.

I think i'm getting that same problem. But thought it was normal?

I'm having a ticking noise instead of a buzzy sound, but it's also coming from the HD, when I'm reading/writing to it, or even when I'm seemingly doing nothing at all. It's like a normal HD sound, but it's just quite loud. Are there any people here that do not here their HD at all even when downloading a big file or something like that? (And have perfect hearing)

Just trying to figure out if this is normal or not.. Other than this it's really quiet, so it's quite disturbing.

The more I hear it today the more I'm starting to believe it's not normal.

When I turned it on in the morning there was no buzzing for about 30 minutes and it sounded how it should sound but after about 30 minutes it started again and hasn't stopped.

It's an annoying sound and taking it back would be a real hassle. grrrr

I tried to record it with my phone. Not a great clip but Here's a link to the audio file:

http://home.comcast.net/~joshbm/buzz.amr

At about 14-15 seconds in the clip is what i'm hearing about ever 10 seconds. I can hear it all the way across my living room if it's quiet.

10.6.2 fixed my flash slowdown issue

reinstalling snow leopard fixed my slow bootup

But this HD noise doesn't sound good at all.
