My MacBook Pro has been making a low-pitched clicking sound right about where the power button is. It is definetely not a normal sound. I took it into the Apple store today, and of course it didn't make the sound when I was there. When I brought it back home it starting making it again right away. Does anyone have any idea what this could be???

Sometimes my powerbook g4 (last rev before they went to 1440x screen resolution) makes a weird click noise when I type -- but usually only when I'm on the hotmail website. I'm positive it's coming from the sound card but it happens even when I mute the speakers.

My SMART status is verified and it still happens when I mute all sound (which I don't like to do, because my music stops the clicking noise from driving me crazy!!)

Hmm... Well I know modern notebook hard drives make a slight clicking noise. Hopefully it's just that. Does it seem to disappear when not using the hard drive? I know this is hard to judge, but if you leave iTunes playing and don't touch the computer (turn iTunes' volume down), the hard drive should spin down for a while as iTunes starts running directly from the RAM. Does the clicking noise stop then? :)

Of course, for this to work you have to let the hard drive spin down which is an option in the Energy Saver preference pane. It happens by default.

Sadly, this is definitely not a normal sound a laptop should make, I've had others and have never heard this sound before, even on other notebooks or Macbook pros. I wish I could describe it better. Another reason I'm sure it isn't a normal sound is that I've had this computer for over a month and this sound just starting to occur two days ago. I really appreciate you trying to help pinpoint the problem though. Thank you!!!
