I'm shocked!

Specwise you're basically saving $300 to drop the privilege of paying an extra $100 for the i7 on the high end.

Someone tell me what I'm missing here. That seems WAY too good a deal.

I find it to be a pretty damn good deal as well, it's basically like the old 13" except better processor, backlit keyboard and 4gb RAM standard = cheaper. - Which I'm all for, good job, Apple! :D

Damn straight it's a good deal. I was preparing myself to pay $1600 for a machine with similar specs. I don't need the extra storage space.

It's a good deal, very true.

The higher end 13" does double the storage, and we all know that 128GB of SSD isn't cheap (UK prices are £150+ for that much), which basically explains the price difference.

It's a fair deal not a good deal ;)

Half the storage space.

...as well as the fact that you're getting a machine you cannot upgrade in almost any way in the future.

Which is effectively true of most laptops with SSD's or otherwise and are things practically nobody cares about. These will sell even better than the current airs.

Apologies if I overlooked it, but did they go with the new soldered-on flash storage, or maintain the SSD? Simply--can we upgrade the storage like past MBAs?

How is this any different from prev-gen 13" MBAs?

Is the extra 300 dollars worth it for double the storage? That's the question im grappling with. I want this laptop to last me 3 years. Is it worth the upgrade?

You can also get the i7 on the 11" without getting the 256GB SSD. At $1349, the 11" Core i7 128GB is a good deal.

Depends on your current storage schema. I keep all of my media on external drives and a media server. I'm trying to keep only documents and Apps on my current MBP, though that'll def. be the case with the MBA if I pick it up. I don't think storage will determine whether it'll last you three years or not. I'd look at performance, and memory--you can always add on external storage--as that'll definitely increase with physical space, and decrease in physical size.

If it came with 256 standard, then it would be cost effective. RAM is so cheap these days you really can't justify that Apple is giving you a better deal:mad:

Yeah, I was a bit taken aback when reading the specs this morning. I guess we shouldn't be too shocked, but this one area is a let down in the update.

And in order to bump it up to 256, it'll require dropping $300 dollars. And if I understand it correctly, that's the only upgrade you get by adding $300 bucks. Ouch.

Yes. The price isn't that unreasonable since a 128 SSD is around $220 and a 256SSD is around $450. So $300 is reasonable and the review says the 256 is way faster.

But I would have liked 8GB ram since RAM is honestly chump change to add in and does not take up that much space.

Ah, the storage. I knew I was missing something.

Still, quite frankly, I just don't see a value in storing all of your junk directly on your laptop when externals are so darn cheap. You can even do a USB-SATA cable with a laptop drive and basically have unlimited storage capacity.

To me that base 13" is an absolute steal at that price. That's the same price I paid for the mid-tier 11".
