Hi guys !

I'm new to this board and this is my first post. I'm from Canada.

I'm in the process of switching from Pc to Mac. I'm thinking of buying a 24" iMac. My question is : is it worth the 600$ difference between the low-end and the high-end 24" iMac.

I mean, the only difference that I see is that the hard drive is bigger, there is 1 gb more of ram and the CPU seems a little bit faster. But will I see the difference in speed ? The only thing that I will do with the computer is surfing the web, photo editing, movie editing and encoding movies for my iPod.

For me, the hard drive and memory are no big deal because I already own an xternal 500 gb hard drive and I can get 1 gb memory for 79$. But I know me and I always want the best in a product but this time, we're talking of a 600$ difference.

Thank you very much for your time and answers. I just can't decide which computer to buy

You wouldn't notice any difference between the two in everyday use.

The faster one will knock a few minutes off video encoding and get you a couple more frames per second in games, but that's about it.

If you custom order the low end 24" iMac to match the specs of the high end model then the prices come out the same so there's no better deal on the high end one. I've just specced an iMac out for my friend and went for the low end model but with the same hard drive and processor as the high end model and then he'll get 4gb of RAM from eBay for the same premium it'd cost to go to 2gb with Apple.
