I just keep kicking myself, I didn't buy one on April 3rd, held out for a week, went to Apple Store tis past Saturday to use and learn, decided to buy a 64gb and when the sales rep to get one she came back and said they were all sold out, she couldn't believe because they had 10 when she came in at 9:30, buy 10:30 they were out of stock.

I called yesterday and they had stock, went to the store at 5:00 p.m. out of stock boy I'm unhappy.

Going to New York tomorrow, hopefully they will have stock somewhere.

It's interesting that they are harder to find now than on launch day. I went to exchange my wife's 16GB for a 32GB. I called the store which is 10 minutes from the house. The person told me they had a few but could not hold one for me. She suggested I come right over. I did. The store was mobbed and I had to wait to be helped. One by one I saw iPad boxes come out of the back to be sold. I figured one of them was the last 32GB and sure enough it was. There were none for me. So I decided to just get the 64GB instead. The person said those were starting to move faster as well!

Yep. Harder to get in my area then they were on launch. I can't seem to find one for my folks. I guess it's already a success

I guess a lot of people were waiting for other people to try the iPad first and report back before deciding whether to get one for themselves. Or maybe it's word-of-mouth.

I've been watching that Chitika labs sales tracker (yes yes their methods are suspect) and it seems to reflect a ramping-up in sales rather than the expected drop-off. I think it's going to hit 1 million sales around the 2, 2.5 week mark if supplies hold up.

All the launch day units are now in the wild.
I'm finding the unit sells itself, especially to people who really had no intention of getting one.
It is a product that one needs to handle for a few minutes to understand its usefulness, and that is exactly what is happening.

When I ordered my 3G I asked my wife is she wanted one. Absolutely not she ranted! Asked again......nope and now I was annoying her (more than usual! :)) Well, we went to an Apple store when I went for accessories for my upcoming 3G. She played with one and changed her mind! She now has one! And this is somebody who thought my MacBook Air and Macs in general were Satan's spawn!!!!! Yea iPad!!

I believe that the early adoption of the device by the consumer is predicated upon the development communities swift action to support it.

I have to agree. I picked one up on launch day and expected to be running iPhone apps for weeks. I got a couple dozen decent apps during the first week! Only a few of my apps are holdovers from my iPod Touch. If all they had on launch day was a handful of Apple apps and pixel doubled iPhone apps, they would still be sitting on shelves.

Today I showed the free "planets" app to some friends at work who are in to astronomy. They quickly wondered if it was tied to the accelerometer and automatically lined up with the night sky being viewed. I said no, but I bet there is a pay version that does just that. If not available now, it will be available within weeks.

This is what a 150,000 app "tail" means. Just because I don't see it now doesn't mean I can't get it. Perhaps I can't find it or perhaps a developer is about to release it. There was never anything like this on the desktop. Sure there were tens of thousands of desktop apps for windows, linux and mac os available but there was no reliable central repository. The app store and active iPad developers are two of the main reasons Apple can sell so many iPads right now.

I am 99% certain my friend showed me an app that did just that, but I thought it *was* Planets. I can find out for sure if you like.

We are sold out in DC metro area all BB and Apple stores are out and I had to "reserve" on at the closest store in Pentagon City.

I hate when Apple does this because like Steve Jobs always says "We've created something truly amazing we think everyone wil enjoy," and they don't make enough to supply. They always talk up the product and come launch time they sell out.... They should anticipate and they won't be in this situation. I dunno it's just a rant I guess... :p
