Resolved Lower 27" imac 1/2"??

So we are about to order a new 27" imac for a new home office (it is 20.4" high on the stand). We have also found the office armoire/cabinet that is perfect for our space - but it is only 20" clear inside height. I'd hate to think that we cannot get the computer we want AND the furniture we want all for the sake of .4":(

Is it practical to think we could do a VESA mount to the back wall of the armoire? Has anyone tried anything like this: a VESA type monitor arm inside a cabinet?

After some thinking, one thing you would need to make sure is that due to the iMacs venting hot air near the top of the system, you would want at least an inch extra clearance on top to allow for proper airflow. And that inch might not be enough depending of the airflow.
 
Actually, it turns out that the Room and Board customer service was able to confirm a .75" lip at the front (for the face frame of the cabinet) - providing a 20.75" clear inside height. COOL.

Good point... I better think about that some more. (I could always drill a few vent holes at the back of the cabinet towards the top)
 
I would suggest a quiet fan in the back rather than just holes. While I do not yet have an iMac (do have ordered) I am basing opinion based on experience with a home theater pre-pro, which can produce a good amount of heat. My rack is completely open in back and in front and sides are perf'd sides, but still have 6" of clearance. It still gets very warm in there. If I did not have the clearance, I would add a fan.

While unrelated to the Mac in general, I have a space issue with my bedroom tv cabinet and a 32" Sony LCD TV and various components that I have in the cabinet itself. I have vent holes drilled for my sub, Wii console, and my Blu-ray player.

I didn't board code the following on purpose as I have yet to figure out how to thumbnail images and didn't want a giant photo stretching the page.

My PS3 is on a shelf that slides out and never had heat problems, my concern is my TV. The back panel is removed from the shelf it's on, but the width is a tight squeeze. I can feel the shelf above it after extended viewing and it does get warm... I just don't want my TV dying on me due to overheating. :confused:
