Hello all,

I want to thank all of you for your fine community. I had been away from Macs for a very long time and after i purchased my 2012 Pro i found this community paramount in getting it to work how i wanted.

Here is my question, my wife plays a lot of Diablo 3/WoW basically blizzards games with me and wants a Mac very badly. I currently have a GTX 660 in my 2012 and would like to find the lowest end Mac Pro that supports this card (I want to get one of the new 9xx) and will be able to play most of the blizzards games at a 1080 resolution.

Any advice would be fantastic.

Thank you

You want the Mac Pro 2009 or 2010 single CPU, either quad or hex depending on your budget. My wife is the same, got her a Mac Pro 2009 quad then upgraded to a hex CPU (980x) for cheap locally with a Nvidia GTX 680.

Good luck!

My 2009 Quad Core runs Diablo 3 at 1920x1200 flawlessly with a GTX 760.

I'll put a 6 Core CPU in it when i stumble across one at the right price (ie free, or close to it. It's only a matter of time until one of my customers decommissions a server with an appropriate CPU) but that is just because i can, rather than needing it for what i use my Mac for.

Anything older than a 2009 gets harder for upgrading etc.

Apparently 2008 Mac Pros have some issues with max perf with some graphics cards, and 2006/7 simply can't run most modern cards, so a 2009 is your best bet. Quad processors are fairly cheap on eBay and off outlets like Macofalltrades.

Get her a 2009 single-socket. Will work great.

My wife edits her own show on her own 09 MP dual-socket on my SAN, I just upgraded her video card too.

And I'm using a 660 graphics card in my 2009 Mac Pro right now. Nothing special, just an out of the box Zatoc model. It runs without any special drivers using Mavericks--you lose the boot screen, but no worries -I keep the original video card in, in case I have to trouble shoot.

Cheers!
