I observed something odd in the genuine Apple Nike watch bands which I want to confirm with other owners of these bands...

I finally got my hands on some series 3 and series 4 Nike watch bands that are otherwise supposedly to be completely identical (same size, same color combos). The series 4 bands, according to Apple, are backward compatible with older watch models.

While I found this to be true, I also found the lugs for the series 4 Nike bands to be "very" slightly smaller than the lugs for the "otherwise same" series 3 Nike bands. Therefore, when I use the series 4 Nike bands on my series 3 watch, the bands feel a looser fit as the lugs are not as tightly fit as they should be. I don't fit the same looseness with the series 3 bands due to the tighter fitting lugs.

I don't know if this is unique to the bands I own, owing merely to manufacturing variations that are still within Apple manufacturer tolerance. If not, then this represent a genuine difference between the generations of bands that Apple did not highlight...

Can someone else shed some light on this?

It’s not just the size that’s changed. The placement of the little inserts moved slightly. You can read more here.

Great job, perezer10, on finding this article.

The article only mentioned a change to the size of the slot but NOT any change to the lugs of the band.

This still leaves the question on whether or not the lugs themselves have changed across series 1/2/3 versus series 4. Very baffling that no other band manufacturers took interest in looking into this issue...
