Lugs on new bands tighter?

Has anyone noticed that the new bands have thicker/tighter lugs? The leather link that I got with my 6 is much harder to take on and off the watch than prior generations of bands. I thought that was just a fluke with the band, but I just got one of the new gold milanese loops, and the connectors on that one, too, are significantly tighter than previous bands. Is this maybe deliberate?

A few people on here have noticed the same thing with some of the Nike sport bands from this year. My Obsidian/Mist wouldn’t fit in my S3 or S6.

On the contrary, my apple watch 6 RED holds the strap in my watch badly, tilts, doesn't hold as well as other straps I have at home.
