Geeze I hope that it’s just an effect of viewing the video on my phone but there’s some horrible halos in that first image of the boat! I stopped watching very quickly and will wait till I’m at home so I can view it on my monitor. Hope he covers the DAM side of things too. I’m tempted to jump ship from Adobe if it offers user organising.

He can't cover DAM as it will not be released until next year. He is talking about what is released on the 16th.

I’m almost all of the way through the video. This is really impressive stuff, I have to say (even if I think he should tone things down when editing, although that may be a deliberate choice to make things more obvious). For effectively $120 I’m happy with the value I get. Now let’s see what DAM features they will add … :)

That is quite impressive! Quick and easy to use with lots of the same tools as Lightroom & Photoshop & then more again. Will have to investigate it further.

That was a nice overview ! I am bit surprised there is a transform function that looks like it works now.

I already bought the upgrade since I've been using Luminar since it came out. Looking forward to the new version.

To me the big missing things...much better masking. We need an edge aware perfect brush and eraser plus luminosity and color range masking. We used to have luminosity range masking in Aurora 2017 and they removed it when the rebuilt the app platform to be about to deliver to both MacOS and Windows. I understand that a new masking set is in planning. So we can hope it arrives after the new DAM during 2018.

I'm rolling the dice with Luminar 2018, especially since the DAM capability will be a free update. They had offered a discount if you pre-order the package so I'm taking a chance in the name of saving some money.

I guess we both see what is under the hood on Wednesday. Lets just hope the DAM is out in Q1 2018.

Luminar is on my list of tools to investigate between now and when my Adobe subscription expires in about 4 months. I use lightroom for 99% of my edits, and I am mostly interested in how it works with raw files. Shame they don't have an iOS version to replace Lightroom mobile.

Just got my upgrade last evening.

I only got to play around with it for a few minutes, but it looks like a nice overall upgrade of features. It doesn't appear to be any 'faster' than the old version. The menus and tools are arranged differently...

I look forward to playing around this coming weekend.

IMHO it rocks. Rough around the edges, sure. Give the short span of time Macphun has been making Luminar, good stuff. Cant't wait for the DAM to ditch Photo Mechanic.

Lots of Windows users evidently having problems. Nothing new there. Same can be said for Lightroom if you go to lightroomforums.com and look for trouble reports. Most are Windows users having problems with graphics cards and drivers.

Did you get an email about it being available? I haven't received anything from Macphun and don't see anywhere from which to download it.

I did receive an email. I had paid up for the upgrade a few weeks ago.

Some other folks have reported not getting any notifications. Perhaps you could email MacPhun support...

I've done that but haven't had a response yet. I downloaded through the trial link, but my activation code doesn't work.

Macphun's support desk usually will get back to you, so be patient. I am sure they are busy with people emailing them about the new release of Luminar 2018. I accidentally paid for the new L18 instead of upgrading. So then I also paid for the upgrade. I emailed them and told them about the error I made and the two orders. They removed the order for the cost of the special full price and cleared things up. They will take good care of you I am sure

If you missed the special pre-order discount, use this for a discount: FUJI

I’m going to pass for now anyway. There isn’t enough to convince me and some of the examples in the video didn't look that good. I’ll keep an eye on developments though...

I jumped in because Aperture won't allow me to work on RAW files from my new camera, and it looked flashy. I have mixed feelings that are likely just a matter of needing to get used to it... generally, I'd adjust a few sliders in Aperture, and then would use the repair tool (which seemed to function like an intelligent "clone and stamp"; occasionally I'd just use clone and stamp) and a few brushes.

Luminar should theoretically be capable of more, but I'm struggling a bit. Its presets offer nice launching points instead of toying around with sliders (and you can still play with global sliders after that), but making smaller edits are more of a chore. There's no "repair" tool, just a clone and stamp. I own Snapheal and can sort of get that functionality by launching it as a plugin from within Luminar, but I can't use it if I'm using Luminar as an extension from Photos (Luminar won't allow plugins when operating in that mode). Probably won't be an issue once Luminar gets its DAM functionality, which might allow me to leave Photos behind, but a bit of a disappointment for now. And I can't seem to find any brushes; there are layers and masking, which should theoretically let me get the same effect (and perhaps it'll be even better), but eh...

I'll keep at it, and if it ultimately doesn't seem to be cutting it, I'll go to Capture One. But for now, even if some parts of the program seem a bit rough around the edges, it seems to hold promise.

Just a few processed raw photos done with the new Luminar 2018.
