I jumped in because Aperture won't allow me to work on RAW files from my new camera, and it looked flashy. I have mixed feelings that are likely just a matter of needing to get used to it... generally, I'd adjust a few sliders in Aperture, and then would use the repair tool (which seemed to function like an intelligent "clone and stamp"; occasionally I'd just use clone and stamp) and a few brushes.
Luminar should theoretically be capable of more, but I'm struggling a bit. Its presets offer nice launching points instead of toying around with sliders (and you can still play with global sliders after that), but making smaller edits are more of a chore. There's no "repair" tool, just a clone and stamp. I own Snapheal and can sort of get that functionality by launching it as a plugin from within Luminar, but I can't use it if I'm using Luminar as an extension from Photos (Luminar won't allow plugins when operating in that mode). Probably won't be an issue once Luminar gets its DAM functionality, which might allow me to leave Photos behind, but a bit of a disappointment for now. And I can't seem to find any brushes; there are layers and masking, which should theoretically let me get the same effect (and perhaps it'll be even better), but eh...
I'll keep at it, and if it ultimately doesn't seem to be cutting it, I'll go to Capture One. But for now, even if some parts of the program seem a bit rough around the edges, it seems to hold promise.
