There have been some innate problems with the Single 1.8Ghz G5 (2004 model). Apple recently released a firmware update designed to fix these problems.

My brother has this machine. He ran the firmware update, and the problems so far seem to have gone away, but the installer left him with an app called "Lurk-n-Launch." When opened, it doesn't appear to do anything.

This is located at Macintosh HD/AppleInternal/PackageDataTools/Lurk-n-Launch. Anyone know anything about this? It seems awfully suspicious. I zipped the folder and deleted the original, because I didn't want it launching itself after lurking on his system for a while.

It appeared on the root directory of my brother's hard drive immediately after the post-firmware-installation restart. As I said,

Macintosh HD/AppleInternal/PackageDataTools/Lurk-n-Launch

They believe that it has nothing to do with Apple's update, and just say that it may be a "too-cute" Apple program name, but I know for sure that it was not there immediately before the firmware was installed, and it was suddenly there afterwards.

Unless Macintouch has a solution, I am still inclined to believe it came from the update, based on the available evidence. It may not affect all updaters due to certain conditions, maybe.

Edit: Well, it seems for now that it's innocuous enough. I had my brother zip the folder and delete the original, so it can't launch itself by itself, in case it's not so nice.
