What’s the lowest spec M chip produced that will out-perform my i9 2.3 5500M 8GB 2019 16” ?

Just curious to have a performance baseline to work with

Cheers

Depending on the exact usage, even an M1 will outperform the i9.

According to Geekbench, the slowest scoring M1 chip is 73% faster in single core and 33% faster in multi-core than your current CPU.

And in the GPU department, according to their Geekbench 6 Metal Scores:
- 5500M: 22% faster than M1
- M2: 15% faster than 5500M
(M1: 30432 | 5500M: 37209 | M2: 42735)

Not to mention the video hardware accelerators (media engines) built-into the M-series.
Only your 16GB (or more) RAM might turn the tide in few special workflows compared to the 8GB base M-models.
