So recently bought a M1. Just wanted to confirm something with other owners. My L key and the key next to it seems to be louder. If I tap the L key towards the top lightly it almost feels loose. If I run my fingers lightly above all the keys. The L key and the keys to its right feel much louder - not sure if that makes sense. Can anyone relate? Is it just a matter of keys breaking in over time?

When pressing L key in bang centre it’s quiet.

If it really bothers you at work, you should send the MBA M1 back, provided you are still in the return period. On the other hand, it is hard to get a perfect device. Most have smaller tolerances with the keys, both in terms of backlighting and haptics (mine included). The MBA Air is just a mass-produced industrial product.

I gave mine a quick try. None of my keys sound or feel any different from each other no matter if I actually push the key or if I just brush over it lightly.

I would say if it is loud enough and feels weird enough where you're noticing it, there's probably something wrong with the keyboard and it should go back to Apple. I'm paying extra close attention to my keys while I'm typing this response and they're uniform in feel and sound. Probably one of my favorite keyboards of all time if not my favorite. The Magic Keyboard for iPad Pro is quite nice as well for the very same reason.
