Each time I cold boot / reboot my M1 Air, my backlit keyboard is dark. Once I enter my password, the keys light up. This is very annoying when working in a dark environment. Why are my keys unlit at logon? Can I change this?

Mine does the same and so did my 2018 MacBook Pro. I don’t know of any way to fix it. Maybe someone here does.

My MBA M1 keyboard is backlit on restart and cold boot at the password prompt. When in doubt erase and do a clean install.

Thanks. At least it is good to know that it is supposed to work. I’m probably not going to go through the pain of a clean install to fix it.

This issue has bugged me for years. If the computer doesn't know it's dark, like at the start of a cold boot, it should just assume as much and light up the keys. I'm sure Apple is aware of this matter, as presumably their engineers have turned on a laptop before.
