Hi!
I got my Mac Mini M1 today which I was really excited about! However I’ve had the issue a few people have mentioned where the external display has intermittent vertical lines and flickering. This was supposed to be my main computer for my job, so need this fixed!

It seems that people I’ve seen think it’s a software/driver issue, which could be fixed with an update. My issue is that if I keep it past the return date, waiting for an update I won’t be able to get a refund for something that works.
How likely is it that this issue will be fixed quickly? And do I have any other options than returning?

thanks!

1). Record the display problem with your phone

2) Try a different HDMI cable

3) Make sure you don't need any display drivers from the manufacturer of your monitor

4) If using a hub, try the connection without the hub

5) If the problem persists, contact Apple

Hi! I’ve tried all this but no luck unfortuately. Apple said to contact my monitor manufacturer who haven’t got back to me yet, but I can’t imagine they’ll have a fix seeing as they haven’t updated the driver since it was released in 2017.

If possible, try a different monitor that has known support. Given the age of the monitor, the problem is probably related to outdated monitor driver.

Hi, sorry should have mentioned. Tried it on my TV and it worked fine however my monitor was brought specifically for work and need it to work on there. Is it a risk to get another monitor to replace it? Is there a high chance it’ll share the issue?

There is another fairly lengthy thread about this exact issue, so it doesn't seem uncommon on the M1 Mac's. I've been following it (prior to registering) for some time as I've had the same issue, which has persisted with different cables, adapters, and through different versions of Big Sur.

I had the same issue ( fine vertical lines on a white background ) with my mini.. exchanged it for another unit, and all was well again!
