I have an M1 iMac that came with 8GB of RAM. I am finding that some apps I user, particularly from Adobe, are running slower and slower ... and I suspect my RAM is not quite enough. I have watched some videos about taking the iMac apart to do a RAM upgrade ... and there's no way I'll attempt that!!

But do I have other options ... other than the obvious: trade in and buy a new iMac? Depending on cost, I am thinking to at least go to 16GB of RAM or maybe even 32GB.

Other than the RAM issues, I am quite pleased with all other aspects of my iMac and it serves my needs perfectly.

Thanks in advance!

The new M4 Macs all have 16GB to start with. I would suggest you to consider trade-in option.

Thanks ... and I am considering it. But the cost is a bit of an issue. Being totally retired, I'm afraid my time is far more cost effective than a new machine! Especially since other than some slowness on a couple of Adobe apps, the M1 is perfect for me!!

I don't know where you live. But some countries have good 3rd-party Apple Resellers that give a small discount on the newest devices and also do trade-ins for a better price.

I always sold on eBay to get the best price but that was long ago and I don't even know if eBay is still that good today and it's always good to have some experience with selling there.

You can also look for refurbished iMacs, they are like new. Max RAM for M3 is 24GB and for M1 only 16GB. The stock is different in every country and can change every day:
