Since setting up my new M1 8C CPU 8C GPU iMac on Saturday, twice now in the last 4 days, the machine has just kind of "freaked out." The first time I was in the middle of a document and the screen went black and the mac rebooted. The second time the screen went all purple (magenta) and then again the mac reboots.

Has anyone else had a similar issue?

Absolutely no. You are unlucky enough to get a defective one. Better send them back.

Nope, not my base M1 iMac - it's been flawless since day 1.

If you are getting kernel panic / reboots which happened on my M1 Mini - due to a program that was copied over.

Try reformatting and reinstalling Mac OS.

Do NOT install any apps/programs or use a Time machine backup.

Then slowly introduce apps/programs to it...
