Hello!
First of all, I apologize for my English level which is not very good.

I have an 11" 2020 iPad Pro A12Z 128GB (6GB RAM) and for me the write speed for large files (>1GB) is very slow.

Downloading a movie/documentary from telegram is impossible, I understand from the writing speed, the download speed is greatly reduced, which does not happen on the iMac (late 2012 2,9GHz 16GB RAM).

Transfer from pendrive also slow, it is not the fault of the pendrive as it does not happen on the iMac.

This is solved with ipads with the M1 chip (Air or Pro (8GB RAM))?
With 256GB disks?

Shouldn’t be the case when downloading. Read/white speeds would be irrelevant. Must be an issue with internet connection?

As to transferring files via USB C - yes M1 is much faster as it features Thunderbolt/USB 4 port.

I have one of these iPPs - regarding write/copy speed from external drives: I get the fastest transfers from and to the iPP using an SSD like Samsung T7. But the maximal transfer speed is slower compared connecting it to a Mac. I also own a variety of USB-C sticks which vary dramatically in speed when transferring data to and from the iPP - and that happens despite all of them are advertised as USB 3.x devices.
One other point: transfer speeds depend on a variety of things like e.g. file sizes and file system. If you have to transfer files often consider using FE FileExlorer, it allows reliable copying in the background.

I have no experience with Telegram, but as @tastesliketailpipe wrote, if the download of the full video in Telegram takes time, it’s your internet connection. Saving or moving files with sizes of several Gb takes seconds on your iPP model.

Hello!
thanks for your feedback.

This is de W/R speed test:

It seems that it depends a lot from the server from where you download the file.

Wifi speed test is 305/214Mbps ( 300/300 contracted ), which corresponds to a maximum speed of 37MBps.

I have tested several platforms and I think it is due to their servers...

From iCloud: 3,41GB movie: 169sec -> 20MBps
From HBO: 3.65GB movie: 720sec -> 5MBps
From AppleTV+: 2,31GB movie: 70sec -> 33MBps

From Telegram on ipad Pro A12Z 128GB 6GB RAM: 1.63GB movie: 193sec -> 7.77MBps
From Telegram on iMac late 2012 i5 2,9GHz 16GB RAM (wifi connected): 1,63GB movie: 110sec -> 14,85MBps

Almost twice from ipad on Telegram as on iMac, maybe because of Telegram server or maybe because of the amount of RAM?

Downloading a movie/documentary from telegram is impossible,

What is your ISP's download speed? Apples' software updates can be gigabytes in size but take just a few minutes on my M1 iPad. My WiFi speed is ~800 Mbps. Directly connected device transfer speeds are a different issue.

Normally Apple SW updates take a few minutes to download.
My ISP's download speed is 300/300.

It seems that Telegram servers treat computers differently than mobile devices (ipad,iPhone)?

Maybe I need to be more patient or increase my ISP speed... 😅

Thanks

I don't know if it's due to the ipad or the ipad OS but as long as they don't fix things as simple as improving the speed of downloading files or transferring them to external drives, it's still a mess.

I thought it was my iPad's problem, either because it didn't have the M1 or because it had a small capacity SSD (128GB) or because of the 6GB of RAM, but the truth is that it shows good write/read speeds (faster than my iMac's SSD) and still takes at least twice as long to do those tasks.

It's still not fixed in ipadOS16, just like you can't do something as basic as formatting a flash drive or ejecting it safely as discussed in this video.

from min 6:31...
