I had hoped that the 2021 12.9" M1 iPP would solve an ongoing problem for me. I just determined that is not the case so am asking for advice since I seem to be forgetting some fundamentals.
I just finished a monthly Zoom global conversation that went on for two hours. I use my pc to run Zoom so I can easily turn the pages and see participants while chatting on the side window, and using Outlook on my pc, etc.
I place my 2021 iPP in front of my keyboard and use a One Drive Ms Word document to make notes on the presentations and responses. However, I ran into a familiar issue that my typing was faster than the text would appear on the screen which made it difficult to generate accurate notes especially as I realized typing mistakes in real time.
I had forgotten to close 15 open apps, but none of them demand much as there were app with active media. So what basic instruction(s) am I missing in this scenario?

I think it might have to do with Microsoft Word being poorly optimized for iPadOS. It lags a lot on my iPad Pro.

Are you using files located on OneDrive? What if you used a local file, taking OneDrive out of the equation?

I need you try this suggestion the next time around.
It has been so convenient to use Word files on OD because as soon as a session is over I pop back to my pc to correct typing mistakes and smooth out my grammar as I work toward submitting a formal report.
Thanks for taking time to respond.

I have dealt with this on various iOS upgrades yet perhaps expecting Ms or Apple to assist is unrealistic.

I use OneDrive myself but find the lag and latency on it to be frustrating. Viewer larger images on it can be painfully slow at time. The irritation overwhelms the convenience.

I am currently running with the 2021 MKB, but this nightmare gaps between my taping and what shows up on the screen goes back at least two iPad Pros (i.e. always buy on new release so 3rd, 4th, now 5th gen).

This happens on my 10.5" Pro and the iPad Mini 4. I'll make a note of the suggestion about One Drive since that's what my wife uses. However, once the problem starts, it doesn't correct itself at all. She has to shut down the app, restart it, and continue on until it happens again.

Just an update after 7 straight days of intense global Zoom sessions on my pc and iPad Pro stationed in front of the keyboard to take notes.
Once the type lagging started I switched from accessing my Word document via OD to the iOS app files and that was not an improvement. I went to settings and disabled various apps that were being refreshed. Again, no joy.
The solution for me was to do a hard reboot which meant typing as expected for four straight hours. These were early morning sessions so one time I did the hard reboot the previous evening but then discovered yet another hard reboot was necessary once the note taking commenced.

I’m curious. What keyboard are you referring to? BT? MK? Or the virtual keyboard on the iPad itself?

For what it's worth, I do something similar. However, rather than type into a full-strength word processor (in my case Pages rather than Word), I use Notes for the draft and then copy the raw text to word-processing afterwards.

Whether Notes, or TextEdit or a totally barebones ASCII editor, I find the benefit is that when I need to get words onto "paper," the more formatting/layout options there are, the slower things seem to go. In my case it's not keyboard lag, but the temptation to format the final version on the fly. Just let the words flow, throw in a hard return when necessary, and be done with it. I'll make it pretty later, in rewrite.

I'm kind of puzzled as to why using OneDrive should induce any kind of lag. Any cloud-based document storage system ought to be using local caching - not only to avoid the kind of lag described, but also for data integrity - write and retain data locally, at a minimum until after the write-to-server can be validated. Due to the relatively compact nature of text files the cache/buffer ought to be large enough to store the entire document, even for book-length works. (Well, at least I would hope that an M1-based iPP has enough available storage to pull that off - if, however, there's less than 500 MB of available Flash... maybe some housecleaning will improve Word's performance.)
